  1. Commanders GM Adam Peters was very clear in multiple answers to questions Grant & Danny posed when he joined the guys from the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday: when it comes to free agency, the draft, and anything else, every decision will be ‘what’s best for the franchise.”

“We just finished up some great meetings with the staff, looking to identify the types of players we want, so we have a great vision of what we’re looking for heading into (the offseason),” Peters said.

“We’re building that synergy and collaboration throughout the building.

Oh, and here’s your key point when it comes to re-constructing this roster: Peters said it verbatim that ‘we will always be a build through the draft team,’ so ‘it won’t be a big spending spree’ in free agency.

“There are a lot of holes we need to fill, but we will always build through the draft and supplement through free agency,” Peters said.

“This year, it won’t be a big spending spree; we’re not going to go out and blow all that money in year one. We’re going to build a competitive team with the right types of guys, then have a great draft after that.

We will find the types of players we want to build our team, supplement them with people that can really make us very competitive this year, and then draft really well to build competitive team.”

Peters has said that the Commanders were unlikely to use the franchise tag, something he told G&D was “a year-to-year decision depending on who you have coming free and where you value them,” but even with close to $80 million in cap space, some of the guys they want to bring back just may not be in the cards as part of that non-spree.

“One of the big parts of this week is meeting with agents for all our free agents, and we’re open to bringing a lot of guys back, depending on how everyone fits into the big puzzle,” Peters said.

“There are some players we’d like to bring back, and maybe some we can’t for whatever reason.”

  2. Good. Literally the best franchises draft well and supplement through FA. And having flexibility in cap allows for signing people in the proceeding years to long deals (especially guys who prove it and we want to retain). I love that we are not a team that keeps winning the off-season with big moves, rather build right and have sustainable success.

  3. I’m excited. Should be multiple solid signings filling important holes, just not the splashy kinds that the bad man used to do

  4. Good. Most of the time you sign FAs in football you’re buying high and they don’t live up to the contract. At least when this team signs FAs lol

  5. In this case- would it make sense to front load some contracts or restructure some in this way? Might save 10 million or so 2025 and 2026!

  6. AP put it out at the closing of his press intro to the fans….’We’re gonna build this team through the draft’

  7. I’m slightly disappointed, but it might be complete bs to temper expectations.

There’s a salary floor, and rookie contracts are a set scale. While signing all the biggest name free agents usually doesn’t turn out well, why not get a couple splashy free agents and front load the new contracts?

At least they won’t be signing anyone from Carolina’s 2014-18 teams because Ron knew their name.

  8. Smart. They’re not ready, no reason to spend on guys who will be past their prime when the team improves. Build through the draft, pay from within first then add FAs to fill and push for the playoffs in a few years.

  9. The cool thing is that I think our coaches will attract good players, so we don’t necessarily need to sign a bunch of dudes if we can get one or two great pickups

  10. Well, do you expect him to say “We’ve got a lot of money we’re looking to spend, get it before it’s gone!!”

  11. Good – Should use free agency to sign proven guys who deserve a second contract but we don’t need Albert Haynesworth
