The press when Pettersson signs his contract

The press when Pettersson signs his contract

  1. I thank Friedge and Donnie and Dhali for forcing his hand and getting him to the negotiating table

  2. I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories, but I’m now convinced that the real Dhaliwal was kidnapped and replaced by Canucks management with hundreds of mind controlled rats in a meat suit… prove me wrong.

  3. The media was just doing their job. Its not on them to gate keep relevant news. Pettersson’s contract status is absolutely relevant to the on ice product of the team. It would be different if they were commenting about his personal life.

The people who got the market into a fever pitch was whoever at the Canucks didn’t say “no comment” or “we don’t talk about ongoing negotiations as a matter of team policy.”

  4. I mean there has been a very vocal portion of the fanbase calling out Pettersson for quite some time now.

  5. Everytime we do a “media bad, media lies, media is being unfair to Petey” post can someone please post the local media stories that are doing this? There must be tons of them. I’m just not seeing them.

  6. I think the thing I regret most about this whole BS saga is the media just play fans for puppets. They say some bullshit, and its so salacious we can’t help ourselves to discuss it. Its like how they say the media doesn’t control what you think. they control what you think about. Sucks to be pawns in this. Can’t see anyway to avoid this stuff though, its like clickbait, it works

  7. Any of the other 3 major leagues, this would have been a huge story driving media and fan engagement non stop. It’s just the NHL where it’s “bad Canadian market” media because in the US the NHL isn’t as popular.

EP40 was not asked even one time during the season so far by the media about his contract status. A national insider said that other teams have been asking the Canucks what’s going on and the fans ran with it, and the local media reported on that.

I swear the fans in this market are soft af sometimes. It’s all a part of the business. If there was no speculation and fans and media weren’t talking about it, that would be a much bigger problem.

  8. If Petey signs now because of the media, then they’ve done the franchise and fans a huge favour.

  9. I don’t really care “who’s to blame”. I think it’s a tired perspective to fully demonize the media or the fans. Some people are toxic, some media is as well.

I happen to love listening to most of the canucks talk shows. That’s exactly what they are: talk shows. Opportunities to discuss, speculate, argue and go deep on all things canucks/hockey. Shows like Donnie and Dhali openly state they’re trying to drive conversation aka their job.

I’m also very happy that Pettersson might sign long term. He’s been one of the most exciting, creative and dynamic players we’ve ever had. I think it’s good to hold him accountable, but some people are going too far. Think back to being 25; I bet most of us weren’t fully mature, confident etc. Give the guy a chance to grow.
