[FanGraphs] A New Way of Looking at Depth

  1. Super interesting read! Not surprised to see the Giants being one of the least affected by having their best players out. This whole team is full of solid players but lacks star power. It’s what made them so scary in 2021; their best five players weren’t as good as the best five players on other great teams, but their 15th or 20th best player was typically way better than the 15th or 20th player of anyone else.

That depth hasn’t been able to shine the past two years because of less luck, some injuries, and mostly the lack of season-long All Star performance like they got from Posey, Crawford, and Belt. In other words, the floor is high for these past few iterations of Giants teams, but they still need a handful of stand out performers to anchor it all. Hopefully some of those can come from this new wave of homegrown guys
