  1. “The deadline for Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez to complete their purchase of a majority of the shares of the Timberwolves and Lynx from Glen Taylor is at the end of March. Lore and Rodriguez remain on track to finalize the transaction, two sources involved with the plans told The Athletic on Saturday.

Another reason that he never signed any papers before 2021 was that Taylor loves being the owner of the Wolves and Lynx. He did not want to hand over the keys to the franchise immediately, preferring a plan that would allow him to be the steward of the franchise for a few more years before he took a backseat.

Taylor has been directly involved in every decision, including the trade to bring Rudy Gobert from Utah which was widely panned last season and has been key to the team’s success this season. Taylor has had the final say on all major decisions and expenditures but has worked with the new guys to make this a smooth onboarding process. Lore and Rodriguez did not want to start from scratch when they took over, and Taylor’s willingness to allow them to operate with that freedom has helped make that happen.”

  2. Won’t it be funny in June when Adam Silver hands A Rod and Lore the trophy after they’ve only officially owned the team a couple of months?

  3. They’re going to become majority owners by the end of this month, barring unforeseen difficulties with the cash (which they’ve been adamant don’t exist) – I’m a little bit surprised, though, that they didn’t wait until the offseason for this last deadline. If there are issues, you don’t want business stuff clogging up the most important part of the season (or any weird power dynamic things about what Taylor’s role is as a minority owner – will he still sit in his signature bench-side seats, for example?)

Relatedly, I’m hoping new ownership leads to a big rebrand with new unis, etc. I can’t stand the current base sets which have all the character of an NBA Live ’99 custom team.
