Why do people hate the Capitol Dome logo?

You know, the one on the hat and on the the new alternate jersey. The general attitude (at least on Twitter) is that it sucks.

People HATE this logo. It’s kind of amusing, but I don’t get it.

It’s a nice update to a vintage logo.

I could take it or leave it on a cap. I don’t like the style of cap with the front white panel. If they made it a solid navy (and adjusted necessary colors), it would be okay.

To me, it would be best used on the sleeve, but whatever.

Why the hate?

  1. “A blocky W is in the books!” just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

  2. To me it looks like what someone would get on a shirt at a tacky souvenir store to say they went to DC.

Especially when I think the curly W has a classic look to it. I don’t see the reason for change.

  3. I’m with you, I don’t particularly understand the hate for it either, especially with how people talk about it on twitter just like you mentioned lol. I always liked the block W, maybe people would like it more without the capitol dome silhouette?

I think the best thing the curly W has going for it is some of the light “branding” done by it in the sense that Charlie Sloews’ “it’s a curly W in the books!” I don’t have a strong feeling on it either way, it does look great on a cap and I think moving to the script Nationals jerseys was a great move instead of redundant double curly W.

all that said though, the on-going “identity crisis” the Nats are going through with the curly W vs the block W is a bit odd lol. really I’d prefer if they just picked one and used the inter-locking DC (which thankfully seems to be revived) as the alternate logo and go from there but it seems like they’re almost in an odd transitional period between the two.

  4. Im not afraid to say I prefer the white script jerseys with capitol logo hats to the red curly w and city connect uniforms

  5. I don’t like it because the Capitol dome just screams Senators to me. They aren’t that team.

  6. The Capitol Dome makes it too busy. I don’t think current Nats fans would be happy with the 1924 uniform which was just a navy block W on the left sleeve with either pinstripes or white uniform and no other logo whatsoever.

  7. AND A WORLD SERIES GAME WINNING DEPICTION OF THE CAPITOL WITH A BLOCK W IS IN THE BOOKS

Just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

  8. I don’t hate it personally, I just hate that they use it interchangeably with the curly W. Like seeing two different Ws on a jersey at the same time appears super disjointed and weird.

Like imagine if the Red Sox had a B hat in one font and a patch with a different B – it’d be bizarre.

I don’t really care if they’re trying to slowly turn this into the new logo, just don’t have 2 Ws at once. Pick one and stick to it
