[Dhaliwal] JP Barry on UFA Tyler Myers: Tyler loves playing in VAN. The contract will be different than last time and we know that, he loves being in VAN. He is looking forward to the playoffs and he should be back soon (from injury).

  1. I have no problem with Myers coming back on a cheap contract

But the dude can probably get 4m on the open market and I do not want that to be from the Canucks.

  2. Chef Allvin will hold Tyler Minor’s head over an open can of surströmming while he forces his hand to sign a league min contract for two years

  3. I bet it’s 2×3

To add: he does obviously love the city, spends the off season in Kelowna, and so staying on a team that’s in a city you love/playoff contender is huge leverage. Also, he’s not dumb and probably understands his worth, he may consider his current contract the big money he’s going to make during his career, and so signing for something reasonable with some stability (maybe a 20 team ntc, idk) is my best guess

  4. If this means he’s willing to take a team-friendly deal to remain near home and chase a cup, I’d love to have him back. But if he’s asking anywhere near his realistic market value I’d let him walk.

If we’re going to pay full price for an aging RHD free agent I I’d rather spend a little extra and get Tanev

  5. Tyler Myers for an affordable price makes for a good 3rd pair d-man, I honestly don’t think that’s controversial.

Hope they can get it done for cup-contender transplanted-hometown discount prices instead of I-sorta-like-the-city prices.

  6. Tocchet version Myers = Yes please

Green/Boudreau version Myers = No thanks

Honestly, at a cheaper contract, Allvin should at least consider a 2-3 year contract and see if he’ll take a slight discount. He’s already made a boatload of money, so family, being close to Kelowna and a chance to win are his priorities. He’s done a 180 since Tocchett arrived and there’s a lot of value in a player already knowing *and succeeding* in the system.

  7. It would have to be cost controlled, but honestly the main priorities on the blue line are first Hronek, and then if possible bringing Zaddy back. At the very least, Hronek will command a pay bump. Once the money trickles down, it might be tough to bring Myers back even if he’s taking a pay cut.

  8. I like him in this mix as it is.
Less is more with him. Ice time and contact wise.
    Hopefully works out that way.

  9. I’ve been a huge Myers critic his entire tenure here, but if he’s willing to sign for 3rd pairing money I’d welcome it.

The problem has always been his contract and the situations he’s been given icetime. Seems like a great team guy who’s well liked and his effort has never been a question.

  10. Some recent comps for veteran 3rd pair defenders:

    – Luke Schenn: 3 years at $2.75
    – Ian Cole: 1 year at $3
    – Brian Dumoulin: 2 years at $3.15
    – Erik Johnson: 1 year at $3.25

I’d have Myers ahead of those guys, so I think if you’re keeping the deal to 1 year you’re happy with any of those AAV’s (although ideally under $3 million).

  11. I’m not saying anything particularly new here, but I like Myers. However, I think he could make more money for another team, and he’s fully entitled to do that. I’d prefer he stay, but he doesn’t owe a “discount” to the Canucks. Naturally, though, I’d love if he took something slightly lower to stay here (with the added perk of hopefully being on a cup contender 🤞🏻).

  12. Myers has always been playing like Big Z was his line mate before he Big Z joined us.

  13. Anything over 3.5M would be too much. He can easily get that elsewhere so we’ll see how much he wants to stay.

Ethan Bear also liked it here.

  14. Anything less than 3 I would do.

I’d think he would have (close to) market value with that hit, and Right Shot defenseman are rarer.

He gets shit on sometimes but he eats a lot of minutes and in a 3rd pair role could provide good value

  15. Is Juulsen ready to replace myers next year? If not then you pay up to 4 to keep him I think…

Even if slight overpay, who’s BETTER at a cheaper price on the open marketv

  16. Never in my life would I think I’d want Myers back at any price but he’s played really well this year for the most part. I’d love him back at $2m max, anything more than that it’s too much cap space for too much of a potential liability

  17. If he can be a serviceable 5D/6D at sub $2.5M (like Tucker poolman’s contract) than that’s good for me.

  18. Tyler Myers has made a lot of money in contracts throughout his NHL career. My hope is that he takes a discount to stay with us because he is raising his young family and may not want to move them around here and there for short-term contracts.

  19. I trust Chef Allvin to not jump on an expensive contract if someone is offering him more

  20. Wow, that’s as transparent as I’ve seen an agent get regarding a client loving to play for a team and is going to take less to make it happen.

  21. I get the sense myers will take like a 1-2 mill contract for 3 years.

Poolman comes off the books next year I believe which will be nice

  22. I think 4m is a stretch (neck joke). I think we would look in the 3.1-3.6 range taking into account any discount to stay on the team and in BC (he’s in OKG in offseason).
