Hear me out… What if we traded our first round pick for a top 10 pick next year?

I’ll preface this by saying this is super unlikely. I think that as hawks fans while we’re excited for a season under Mike McDonald; we’ll all be patient as he implements his new system. With Geno the starting QB next year, I don’t see it very likely that we go all the way to the Super Bowl. (Geno’s not a bad QB) But the prospect of an elite QB is much more promising imo.

I could also see us drafting a QB at 16 to learn under Geno for a year.

Interested to see what you guys think.

  1. That would be crazy because nothing is guaranteed. You don’t just trade your first round pick for a first round next year and hope it’s a top 10 pick.

  2. if you want to trade for a QB, then trade up this year and get one with talent.

Hard pass on the QB whose only talent is having access to his daddys PR team….

  3. It’s super unlikely because it’s bat shit crazy, and a coach would get fired for even suggesting it. How do you know who the top 10 teams are a whole season away?

You clearly like Sanders. But he could have a career ending injury. Or fall off a cliff in terms of production. And your loony idea in no way gives us a guarantee of getting him.

  4. Trade makes no sense, and there’s no guarantee any QB in the draft will turn in to an elite player in the NFL. I’m also really tired of the narrative that we couldnt win a SB with Geno at QB, there’s been plenty of worse that have won SB. Put a team around a guy and see what they can really do.

  5. I would not want shadeur, not unless he improves his sack management. I’ve seen to much of that with wilson

  6. Not really sold on Shadeur plus trading for future picks is a fools errand in the nfl.

  7. Considering the success rate of 1st round QBs becoming elite players who transform a franchise, this is a terrible, no good, awful plan.

The NFL has 32 teams and maybe 8 elite QBs. If drafting QBs was a sure thing, we’d see a lot more elites in the game. 56 different QBs started an NFL game last year. Taking a guy from the draft and making him elite at best a fortunate outcome.

  8. When talented players get micromanaged to this level, it adds a level of unpredictability. Add in the fact that he got sacked 52 times (5x more than Penix, 1.5x more than Caleb Williams) and it becomes a lot of unknowns with his QB development but also future injuries. Not worth going big on a single bet.

  9. I think drafting a QB in this class is a mistake and even next year I think its not a wise move either. People don’t like reading the stats but changing coaching staff even experienced staff doesn’t have a great track record in going to the super bowl within the first few years. Lets work with Geno and Lock to get some stability and our foundations in order for the new culture to seed in. Then once we have some established culture bring in the fresh new talent. I would love to be proven wrong but long standing stats are difficult to overcome.

  10. Meanwhile, the rest of the team gets a year older, more expensive.

    This is a dumb idea.

  11. Geno is to Mike what Tarvaris Jackson (RIP) was to Pete. A placeholder while they find the piece needed for the new system.

  12. Next year’s QB class is solid. This will be interesting seeing what JS and JA cook up

  13. Ol or dl unless someone with undeniable talent falls to us, and we’d be stupid to say no.

  14. No. He is by far the definition of buying into your own hype…. They talked the biggest game and continuously got embarrassed.

  15. Very biased and admittedly weird take here. As a diehard Coug fan, this is my main exposure to college players in person or watching intently on TV.

For some reason after Mike Leach, so 10 years roughly, the Cougs dominate future NFL stars. If you get beat by the Cougs, you’re a pro bowler.

I remember we held McCaffrey to 30 yards and I thought he would suck. I remember live when Minshew outdueled Herbert til Herbert turned it on at the end. I thought he would suck.

Last year, we beat the crap out of Sanders and he tapped out. I think he’s gonna suck. Therefore, he will be very good.

  16. I would be fine with them taking the Eagles approach and trade back in the first round for future firsts, if another team was willing. It worked out really well for them from a team building perspective, and with how deep this OL draft class is, we could still get an impact player late in the first.

But the idea of trading for a 10 ten pick next year makes no sense. That’s not a guarantee at all.

  17. Sanders ain’t it! Next year is going to be Beck. A dark horse next year will be Grayson McCall who is transferring to NC State.

  18. Feel like we could get a 2nd this year and a 1st next year depending on who falls there.
