  1. This is the only way he would ever answer this question. If they don’t want to add more pitching, it’s the truth. If they do want to add more pitching, they’re not giving up leverage.

  2. Also: lux tax payroll is already at $215M for the year. The first threshold is $237M. Snell/Monty would command higher than a $22M AAV which would push us into that first tax threshold. I don’t see ownership going there.

The most we’d get is either a guy like Lorenzen or maybe a trade

  3. Something DID change, our Ace is injured in the preseason and will miss opening day. Our rotation is shaky. Again.

  4. This is negotiating leverage everyone… all the big pitchers left are Boras clients. If Mo goes on record saying he definitely needs a starter, then the ask for Monty or Snell goes up exponentially… come on guys, common sense

  5. We have turned into an unserious organization that is not interested in competing for a pennant, let alone a World Series

  6. Not exactly sure why, but seeing this quote just makes me angry.

Oh. Maybe because its been the same the toe the line answer for the last 5 years. There is no urgency. there is no desire to be the best. only not the worst. Even without the injury to Sonny, this team needs another front end starter. Everyone analyzing the Cardinals would say if they really want to compete, they need another good arm. Not another geriatric pitcher that can get them innings. At some point the innings have to be quality.

  7. He’s just trolling us now.

This is a social experiment to see how much we’ll take before we snap.

  8. Trevor Bauer can be had for next to nothing, sign him and Snell and be done with it…..that’s also called “Trying to actually win”

  9. Happy with mediocrity.

Very disappointing, but definitely not surprising.

It’s the Cubs division, the Cardinals are going to fight for the wildcard with the rest of the teams that are on that “contend but not if it’s expensive” method.

There’s no reason this team couldn’t sign Montgomery and another depth pitcher and just save Gibson and Lynn for the inevitable injury crunch depth pitching. It’s just money not prospects at this point.
