  1. I really like the hires. Staley is controversial but the reason is he gets overly creative and fails at times. He is overall a very good coach but he isn’t a shanahan which is what he has tried to be in the past

  2. My position on Staley is “I hate it right now, but if their defence is amazing this year I will assert I was one of the few insisting it was a great hire!”

  3. I’m curious what metrics people have to measure success for the defense this upcoming season. For me, it’s to be better in overall defense than we were under Wilks.

I know that’s a pretty broad definition so I’ll go with an increase in sacks and pressures, a better ranked run defense, and maybe generating more turnovers.

Of course, here’s hoping we don’t have major injuries.

  4. Recency bias runs like a plague through the veins of reporters in the off-season.

If you look at the last ten years and count how many failed HC’s made for great assistant coaches/coordinators, the Staley hire isn’t anything to scoff at.

I think it’s pretty awesome for the Niners to try something different with these hires. It’s hard to get the right guy.

  5. I’m tired of giving Kyle the benefit of the doubt on whacky shit. Staley is a bad idea. We were told to trust him about Trey Lance. The dude almost took Mac Jones. Either way, it cost us the kind of depth tht could’ve helped in the SB.

Bringing Staley in is a terrible idea.
