#NFLVideos: Are the Bills in danger of missing their Super Bowl window?

Are the Bills in danger of missing their Super Bowl window?

It’s time for the lead block. Okay, let’s go very much. Uh, we’re going to start in Buffalo. There’s that beautiful blue helmet that must continue as well where the bills. And this time it’s appropriate. That blue helmet announced the release of five players yesterday, including their former All Pro

Safety Jordan Poyer. Former Pro Bowl center Mitch Morse. And according to Ian Rapoport, they’ll also release former All-Pro corner Tre’davious white at the start of the new league year. They also restructured Von Miller’s contract. There’s a lot of to do’s here. It’s this all in an effort for Brandon Beane

And the obligation he has to free up some cap space bills are losing some key pieces that help Buffalo to win four straight AFC East titles, and those titles, as we’ve heard Josh Allen give it the treatment. Great accomplishments there. Nice t shirts there. Great to have in

The closet. But there are bigger goals in mind with this team. The bills though, are they in danger of missing this Super Bowl window? Peter, that we have kind of started to adopt and apply to some teams? I feel for the bills and I feel for the bills fans because a second

After they lose to the Chiefs in that AFC divisional round game, it’s already the windows closed. It’s done. We’ve got to do this whole thing again this off season. This was the same conversation last year, same conversation the year before. Yeah. And now I’m starting to think that there’s things

Crystallized. And hey wait. If they didn’t get to the championship game last year and they didn’t get to the championship game the year before, that has that window closed and I can’t say yes yet, because as much as we love Poyer , and as much as we love some of

The other veterans who are unfortunately shown the door, I think Mitch Morse played really well last year too. Like I thought that was an actual bigger surprise in a lot of ways . They still have that core. Can we take a look at still the guys they have that are 30 and under

Who are still under contract, who are stars? You’ve got Josh Allen, maybe the best quarterback on any given Sunday. You’ve got Stefon Diggs, who’s still a number one wide receiver. Milano is coming back from the injury. Dawkins cook. And here’s the thing. Their offense with Joe Brady last year

It hit another stride down the stretch. They were they were humming. Did they come up short. Yes. Do they lose some key veteran players from teams that were from previous years. Yes. But that’s every team. I still see the core there and I still see a desire. It’s hard for me

In March before for free agency and before the draft to read the last rites of the Buffalo Bills. If anything, they showed us last year when they were the 11th seed in the AFC heading into week 13 and rattled off a bunch of wins and ended up two seed

That no, you can’t count these guys out and I will not close the window on them yet. And you shouldn’t. Peter I was in London last fall when Matt Milano went down with that very significant injury for the bills, and at times that felt like the balloon almost. The air started to come

Out and it just it had to do with cap space. And just like the emotional weight and impact of losing that player. So it’s good to see him on that list. And I think the team will look different when they come back. But that was such a significant

Moment for a player that you highlighted on that list. Well as much as I don’t want to, I want to say that window is closed. It’s not only because they have a good quarterback, they have a good quarterback that can lead them and they have a core. And like you said, they

Start hitting a stride when they kind of took the ball out. The quarterback hands and started running the ball a lot more, and so that made them a little more dangerous. I don’t know how it looks losing your starting saving safety, which was definitely a leader in the

Defense and then kind of losing a couple other guys and a couple other pieces. And it’s always different when a quarterback gets under center with a different center, but sometimes it click and sometimes, you know, you just need to make changes and everybody does it. It’s just they have key pieces

That they’re losing or that they think they can replace. So we’re gonna we’re gonna see. But I mean, hopefully for me and I’m in the division. Yeah They window closed. Yeah stuff. They can’t do it no more. But uh, you know, any given Sunday, Josh Allen can go six touchdowns

Himself. And so we, we just got to see we got to wait and see. The problem is we’ve seen him do that in playoff games. And they lose like he’s awesome in the playoffs. He’s awesome against the Chiefs. And they lose. And I’m looking at these names of

Poyer and then Trey White. And it’s like we gave it a shot. How many times are we going to run this thing back. We tried we tried we tried. And it just never worked. You couldn’t get over the hump I think to Peter’s point, some people probably turn

On the show and they’re like Super Bowl window for the bills because they were in a title game a few years ago. No, I don’t think we put it that way. I think because we all watched Josh Allen and we’re like one of these years. He’s so good they

Could cash it in. But look, I don’t think we’re going to be coming in Monday morning after they lose a playoff game. Be like, you know, Mitch Morse would have been the difference. It’s not it’s a nice piece, but it depends what they’re going to do for the next several months.

It depends been does in the draft what Beane does in the next few days. And free agency and just does the ball, you know like Plinko when it comes down like that there’s the ball. Finally go in one of those times. How many playoff shots does Josh Allen get out until

They finally cash one in? Maybe never. Maybe this is the year. I just think every conversation about Buffalo, it has to go back to Kansas City and that’s just the way we are. And as long as Kelsey Reid, Mahomes and Jones are there, that’s the most of the conversation about Buffalo.

And you know I’m extremely pro. Buffalo But this is I’m also extremely pro facts. And we’re even showing this old stuff. It doesn’t matter. They have to get over the Kansas City thing. And I think if they’re doing some maneuvering right now with money and adding new pieces, fine. If

You, Jordan Poyer and Mitch Morris, all these guys come back like we’ve kind of seen that movie before. I’m actually interested for some new characters as well. The facts are as well that it was the Arrowhead Invitational. And I think towards the end of our season, we really started to

Talk about the fact that the bills should have jumped on or could have jumped on an opportunity here where. But I was down and like other AFC guys were down and like, you should take an opportunity to host the Chiefs and crush them in your home building in a playoff game.

And they could not get the job done. I almost think of Buffalo is like that old creaky house that you’re staying in, like you’re you’re trying to shut the window and you’re putting all your body weight on it, and the window just stops. You’re like, I’m going to leave that there.

I’m going to see I’m going to come back tomorrow, maybe next season and see if the window closes or if I have to jar it back open in order for this opportunity to. The window is just in in a holding pattern right now. Like maybe it needs

Some WD 40. We’re not quite sure how to assess it, but. But right now it’s stuck. It’s still open a little bit open a little bit close. There’s an original window metaphor. Jamie nicely done. You can’t find many. Jordan. Who’s it? Harder to prepare for the Dolphins or the

Bills? You got this high powered speed offense. Then you got the bills who have Josh Allen and that beast at quarterback? Uh uh, I think, uh, the Dolphins kind of give you the same look every time you play them. I think the bills can always switch it up. You know they can

Get Stefon Diggs the ball 13 times or they can just they can go read options sometimes or they can go power game sometimes they switch it up. So uh I feel like the Dolphins do what they do. They coming out. They speed in space. Uh and it’s difficult.

So it’s just I mean, it’s just two different beats picking your poison. Yeah. It’s just two different beats. So do you want to, you know, uh, if you if you can’t stop the speed, you’re going to die fast with the dolphins. But you know, uh, the bills can do it in multiple

Ways. The answer is it’s easier to prepare for the Jets. That’s

  1. There was never a "Bills Superbowl window." They have made it out of the divisional round once during this entire 5-year run and never made it to the Superbowl even once in that time. So confused how this franchise keeps getting a benefit of the doubt reaction while simultaneously doing nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt. The Chiefs and Niners have earned it because they've been there and in position enough that if they don't make it for a season or two, you can say "well, is the window closed?" Stop with the Bills window talking point, please. It never existed. Rooting for a team to win a Superbowl is one thing. Thinking a team has the ingredients to win a Superbowl is one thing. Dedicating a segment on a consistent 4th to 8th place finisher being in position to be a 1st place finisher is really disingenuous. The Bills haven't been any closer to winning it all than Jacksonville, Houston, Dallas, Minnesota, Baltimore or even Cleveland. That's who they should be compared to – a playoff window. Not teams like KC or SF that actually have proven that they have a Superbowl window because they go to the Superbowl.

  2. As I mentioned under another comment, they are in danger of the window closing; however, with that being said, it seems like Josh Allen is like Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes is Tom Brady with the Patriots prior to the year the Colts were able to beat the Patriots in the AFC Championship (I think it was that game but if not, it was the year the Colts beat the Bears in the Super Bowl). Until Josh Allen beats Mahomes in the playoffs, people will question it.

  3. Yeah, they’re terrible. Allen stinks McDermott is an idiot. They just been very very very very very very lucky. Now they get rid of a 33-year-old safety who can’t run anymore a 32-year-old Center and a 29-year-old corner off back to back major surgeries, who likely wasn’t going to play this year. I realize you need to come up with content, but this borders on moronic.

  4. The Super Bowl window is gone, the next one opens with the start of the next season.
It's sad for Hyde, Poyer, Morse, … but it has to go on and there is no reason not to try the best next season.

  5. MillerTime71 why you mad? Solid executive management and young players-Chiefs will have a better legacy than the Patriots and Steelers. Mahomes is coming fast Brady…

  6. As a Bills fan, that window has expired. Can't even make it past the divisional or win close games sometimes. Probably gonna take a miracle to get to the promise land.

  7. In danger of? How about already missed. This team is overrated sans Josh Allen. They’re never going anywhere beyond a hapless, meaningless playoff appearance as long as better teams like the Bengals, Ravens and especially the Chiefs exist in the AFC.

  8. Bills would have beat the chiefs but they were done for after all their injuries. Now theyll need a new WR and draft some better defensive youth. I think theyll be fine because injuries shouldnt be something that happens constantly

  9. AFC teams spent billions on trying to beat KC. Yet KC has gone back to back with the worst receiver group, the worst training facilities and eating moldy bread and bologna sandwiches 😅

  10. The Bills are doing what the Chiefs did 2 years ago, When the Mahomes contract hit it's stride moves were made Hill was gone good defensive pieces gone. They had to come under the cap, this is all Buffalo is doing they will be OK. You can let go of those pearls now.

  11. The bills Super Bowl window is officially slammed shut they had an opportunity several seasons ago when there was only 13 seconds on the clock and they couldn’t pull it off then this was the weakest Chiefs team in six years and they still couldn’t put them away so the bills they’re done as contenders they’ll make the playoffs but as far as contending for Super Bowls they’re done for at least the next five seasons

  12. The only "window" Bills ever had in 8 years, was a 13-second peephole in Jan 2022. Those ncessary cap moves and cuts won't harm nor transform the team in any way. May even marginally improve it.
