The Dodgers have been adamant since the start of spring that Gavin Lux will be their starting shortstop. After some recent throwing woes, Dave Roberts was noncommittal about sticking to that plan and “I don’t know” if Lux will start there on Opening Day.

  1. Very surprising he would be noncommittal because Doc usually sticks by his guys no matter what. Definitely not a good sign for Lux.

  2. I am not a professional baseball player or manager, but I don’t see a way for someone to be a major-league shortstop if they can’t reliably throw to first base.

  3. It was kind of strange to me when they said he would play there after there were questions about his arm at short when he was drafted, and they had him spending time at 2nd in the minors.

  4. Lux has been swinging a good stick and could be pivitol in the 9 spot infront of the big 3, I would hate to see him not be a starter because he simply can’t make the throw to first. Mookie had 5 starts at short last season, really hoping they at least consider swapping Mookie and Lux so Lux can have the shorter throws.

  5. maybe he doesn’t literally start opening day in seoul but i’d be pretty surprised if he doesn’t get the vast majority of starts at shortstop this year. can’t imagine we’re gonna do another full year of rojas

  6. Give the job to Rojas while Gavin figures it out in the minors for a bit. He’s coming back from major surgery. The offense can take a hit with the likes of Ohtani, Betts and Freeman holding it down. Even lower in the lineup you have solid guys like Outman, Hayward, Taylor etc. can’t have two terrible defense at short and third driving up innings to Miller, Yoshinobu and Glasnow because of misplays.

  7. I have said this since LAST YEAR BEFORE SPRING TRAINING!!!!!

How could someone with no baseball experience be a better at personnel evaluation then the ENTIRE Dodger team??? Just pathetic.

    Well this was obvious.

Now you have hurt Lux confidence.

Could have transitioned him easily back to 2nd. Not disappointed Mookie and had him at RF. Had Heyward prepare as a backup in RF. Still needed Kike though as a super sub as Taylor looks like he is continuing his career downturn to suckiness with the bat.

    ARHH.

Well just make the move and lets go already. Opening day is about to start. Just make the chnage. Better now to embarrass Lux during the season.

  8. Wild that Lux’s only real weakness is throwing a baseball – something that is considered a pretty easy skill to develop in top prospects. He hits for power and gets on base as a SS, and is 85th percentile in OAA (fielding range). He just simply cannot get the ball to 1B. It’s insane.

  9. I don’t understand why they signed Heyward knowing Lux might not be sustainable at SS, they need to get Lux a full season’s worth of AB’s this year

  10. I wonder if the dodgers ride with Rojas and maybe consider trading for a SS at the all-star break? Seems if they’re fading on Lux than they have some issues to address in that respect very soon

  11. Sweeney might be a real option after the all star break if the dodgers truly fix his launch angle. But I feel bad for lux I really wanted him to work it out
