  1. It’s not the $10M/year…that’s not insanely expensive and certainly won’t be in 10 years. It’s the 10 years for a guy who has thus far played like a backup or stop gap till we get a legit 3B. He’s young and will almost certainly improve but we haven’t seen 10-year-deal prowess yet.

Also, he’d be dumb to take this. If he does develop into a legit 3B, it’s the worst deal in history from a player perspective.

  2. Hell no. I hope we come back to this post after the season and I get laughed at for this comment, but he hasn’t shown anything close to getting a 10 year commitment even if it is for “cheap”.

  3. This is some shit that would work for the Braves but immediately blow up in our faces

  4. Baty hasn’t proven he is a major league baseball player. Last year someone on a minor league journeyman contract could have performed his numbers. He isn’t even worth a major league contract at the moment. He’s had a negative WAR. You have to keep the right to send him down until he proves he belongs.

  5. Baty is closer to a DFA than a massive long term extension.*

*Please note I am not advocating to DFA Baty

  6. Not a chance in hell. Haven’t we realized yet that Cohen and Co. doesn’t prioritize extending contracts?

  7. My wife has a massive crush on him, which just makes watching all of his strikeouts that much more painful

  8. zero chance. the point of having the wealthiest owner is that the Mets do not need to takes these gambles! I’d rather pay for a proven asset then try to wish-cast on a young prospect

  9. 10 years is a really long contract, and baseball is moving away from those kind of commitments. If Baty has a good year, then somewhere in the 3-5 year range might not be a bad idea.

  10. Yes if he hits .270 with 25 HR this year but not 10 years. Thats absurd.

  11. Not yet. He has to show he can actually play at the big league level first.

  12. No I would not give a $100m contract to somebody who isn’t even a regular MLB starter.

  13. Would be very dumb. He has a bad year this year and he’s probably done as a Met. Hoping for a positive outcome, but would be pretty reckless to extend.

  14. NO WAY… baty hasn’t proven anything. Alvarez needs to be extended.

  15. No. I don’t even think I’d be on board for a 10-year, $10 million deal today
