[Scott Lauber; Paywall] Weekend baseball reading from @PhillyInquirer: With a club-record payroll and big commitments for next few years, #Phillies are in a “championship window.” But Dave Dombrowski has a more ambitious goal: Sustained long-term excellence. Like the Dodgers.

  1. Not surprising that the Phillies want sustained success beyond the current championship window

  2. Get Bryce to show up in person instead of recorded package when the big free agents come visit. *downvote me*

  3. That’s Dombrowski speak for, “We’re signing Rōki Sasaki as soon as he becomes eligible.”

  4. We fucking deserve it. Best fanbase in baseball. Quench the thirst of this city DD. Ownership, let loose it’s only in your benefit.

  5. That’s all great and all but gotta win the championship first. And then we can dream about being like the Dodgers or Astros*

  6. the team is making fuck tons of money right now. That only stays if we stay winning and the hype stays high.

I’m so ready to be high as fuck for years.

  7. > “When you have somebody like Dave Dombrowski, who has demonstrated, as did Pat [Gillick], that he’s a really astute judge of talent and an astute assembler of talent to form a cohesive team, you give him a lot of latitude,” Middleton said. “Conversely, when he comes to you and says, ‘John, I could spend the money, but I’m just not buying anything meaningful for it,’ I just think of it that way.”

They would spend money, but there’s “not anything meaningful to buy” right now? That’s the most obvious sign ever they’re looking at Soto next offseason haha

  8. It’s like I have this proverbial mountain of cocaine sitting right here in front of me

  9. This is what I want. I want “Phillies” to be synonymous with a playoff team. I don’t want to see everything blown into one big gamble. The playoffs are hard and unpredictable. I’d rather have a shot every year.
