Tyreek Hill taught me something

I recently watched Tyreek Hill’s interview on the Pivot Podcast. Still a big fan and I was bummed that his late season injury kept him from getting 2k yards.

But I digress. At the end of the interview (around the 56:25 mark) he shared a story about Pat that gave some insight into how he likely led this offense this past season—particularly regarding his receivers.

He shared a story about a stretch of a season when many receivers were playing poorly. He spoke of Robinson, Watkins, Kelce, and Mecole which leads me to think this was the 2020 season.

He said Pat called a meeting and called the group out, then called people out individually. He held the guys accountable and led the chiefs to their first SB in 50 years.

I definitely heard the media question his leadership this season with the way our offense played. Many said he needed to call out his guys and hold them accountable.

After hearing Tyreek’s interview I have no doubt he did just that. Likely, it’s what propelled us to win the SB.

It’s something that doesn’t get covered enough by mainstream media and it’s not measurable by any statistic. However, his leadership is what makes the difference for the Chiefs compared to other teams.

Did anyone else notice the media question Pat’s leadership this season?

Anyone catch the Tyreek interview?

What are the chances we 3-peat?

  1. It’s why the Jordan comparison is so apt. He has a squeaky-clean image* and a goofy voice, but on the field he’s a “competitive prick” (in EB’s words) that simply refuses to lose.

As for the last part of your post, well… I like to channel Morgan Freeman in The Dark Knight when one of my friends from another team starts puffing their chest when they play us:

“You want to bet against Patrick Mahomes, a man whose worst finish in five years is losing in overtime in the AFCCG? Good luck.”

*As an individual, although dealing with those… around him only humanizes him more imo

  2. I know Tyreek said Sammy but I’m pretty sure the stretch was 2021 and Sammy was gone by then

  3. This is exactly how I want him to handle it the media is just beyond stupid. Yes he should call out his receivers behind the closed locker room doors not in the public eye. There is no better way to handle it the media just wants something juicy to talk about.

  4. I keep waiting on the ball to drop with Mahomes. Can’t believe the more that comes out about him the more amazing he comes off.

  5. After the Buffalo game, I saw a few people in the media say that he was going after the refs in public because he knew he couldn’t go after the receivers. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just waited until there were no cameras around.
