Nice story about Jared McCann on the Kraken’s first media day from team Lead Designer Katie Spence

Saw this on Twitter and wanted to share bc it is very wholesome 🙂 Here’s the thread link, but I’ll copy the tweets here for folks who don’t have an account: https://twitter.com/katiespence/status/1766338093446267224

>ok like listen there is a very real reason i love jared mccann and it is not just because he is an Extremely Good Hockey Player for the Seattle Kraken! on our first media day being a new team/still in covid world it was obvi like one of the first times everyone really met irl —

>i was on bts trying to be helpful but also out of my depth & nervy abt getting in the way. i was minding my biz at a set while jared was waiting & he turned to me and introduced himself. asked how my day was going, where i came from and why i wanted to work for the kraken

>media day can be a lot of awkward conversation largely bc it’s a long day for the guys full of stuff they don’t really wanna do with people they don’t really know. jared, nhl player, went out of his way to make ME, random employee, feel like i belonged there

>it was like 5 mins of small talk & I know the bar is in hell but he treated me like a human person when he didnt even have to acknowledge I existed & especially in that environment it’s a small thing that made a very lasting first impression on me and i will root for him forever

>(ftr I also asked him about being on the kraken and what he was looking forward to and he told me that it was exciting to have a fresh start and that here there was no big star so everyone had a chance to be “the guy.” i’m very happy jared has been the guy!!!)

>anyway he doesn’t know i exist but i’ll go to war for him every day of the week and twice on sundays bye

That tweet has two screenshots of text messages where Katie said “amazing” “just spent a minute chatting with mccann. he’s super nice” “like if mccann isn’t an actual star I will die”

>finally: hell will be hot for anyone who ever made him feel like he didn’t belong or wasn’t good enough!!!!

>found pics obvi. this story happened while we were at green screen waiting for gio (who he was telling to nhl94 celly). but he was a gem the whole day!

  1. I love these candids of our players being good people. Helps to offset all the other negativity in the hockey space and gives some pride to the Seattle name. Thanks for sharing this!
