[Murray] Sources: The Giants have placed J.D. Davis on waivers. Davis, who can play the infield and outfield, became a candidate to be moved after the Matt Chapman signing. A waiver claim is possible.

  1. I know we had no leverage In trade negotiations but this is a bit surprising to me.

  2. Eh, this was a pretty obvious conclusion, every position he plays is backlogged on the giants. He became superfluous, why would a team give anything up for someone they could get for free?

  3. Nobody was going to give up any prospects of note so they could take on $7,000,000 for JDD. Maaaaaybe if SF had eaten a majority of the contract?

  4. Man I know Chapman is very helpful for our team because of his fielding and our pitching squad pitching tow lot of ground balls but I’ll hate to see him go before the regular season even stars. Dude has been on fire all spring and was not the worst hitter on our team last year. Too bad they can’t find I way to fit him in the lineup like putting him in the outfield over yaz or conforto or something like that.

  5. I like JD, but yeah, once the Giants signed Chapman there was no place for him on the roster, since I’m not keeping him over Wilmer and both of them overlap as right handed corner infielders — plus, Wilmer has a better bat and we need another bench option at 2B more than for LF. That the Giants couldn’t find a taker suggests to me that they wouldn’t eat enough of his salary, because you can find a home for JD if you eat most of the $6.9M, but if you aren’t sending cash with the deal to cover most of it, yeah, you wouldn’t get more than $1.98 and bucket of used BP balls for him.

  6. the only way this makes any sense is if we use the money to sign a snell or montgomery, if we dont then why wouldn’t we eat part of his contract to get anything back in a trade??

  7. I think Chapman is an upgrade from JD Davis but I can stop from feeling bad for Davis, I can’t believe there is no one who could use a player of his caliber, one minute he was in a movie theater watching Dune the next minute he is out of a job, Wow!
