  1. Huh, but why though? I mean he does count as a quality backup in the event that Trev misses time again this year. I guess if you take it completely out of the context of them both being 1st rounders and just treat Jones as a quality backup playing at the end of a rookie deal that you can possibly resign for average backup money it’s an OK deal if the pick is actually a 6th rounder.

EDIT: in fact now that I’ve worked my way through it I think it’s a decent decision. We needed a better backup, QB injuries were a huge problem last season league wide.

  2. Infinitely better than Beathard and would make it a lot less needed to force Trevor to play through injuries, so that’s nice

  3. I mean he’s better than Beathard, but why trade a sixth rounder for one year of him? Maybe they hope they can rehab his value and end up with a better comp pick in two years than the sixth going out.

  4. I love this. Huge backup upgrade. Let Doug fix him and trade down the road. Baalke wasn’t drafting anything good in the 6th anyways….

  5. A 6th rounder for a better backup than what we have. With how Baalke drafts that would probably be a DB or LB that has no chance of sticking

  6. I don’t mind this tbh. Not sure how long CJ will be here and Mac is from the Jacksonville area, Hometown kid.

  7. Our sub is so goddamn weird. They bitched about CJ for months, now we get a former first rounder as a quality backup for a 6th rounder and we are going to complain about that lol.

All I ever hear from this sub is how 6th rounders have zero value. Personally, I’d rather have a backup QB who may be useful.

  8. Giving away 6th round pick is better than some injured LB from the SEC or a community college CB

  9. Jaguars fans complain when Baalke uses late round picks

Jaguars fans complain when Baalke trades away a late round pick

  10. I think Beathard is a very underrated backup and we could’ve won some of those games if we had him playing instead of an injured TLaw. But maybe this move will give the coaching staff more confidence to bench Trevor when they should in the future

  11. I honestly love this. Quality back up, dude is home grown and grew up a jaguars fan. Y’all shit on our 6th round picks anyways so this is a no brainer for me.

  12. Unexpected but I don’t hate the move. Mac will give Trevor a better competitive push than beathard

  13. Mac is from Jacksonville and is a fine backup who has experience as a starter. That sixth round pick would have been a Derek Parish-level guy, this trade is totally fine.
