We could use whatever late picks we accumulate to trade up in the later rounds of the draft. So any extra picks are great.
Awesome! Probably just a late round draft pick as the compensation, but if the Bengals were happy to release him, then we definitely didn’t have any leverage in the trade talks. Smart move by the Texans not letting him hit the open market. Win-win.

FYI, Houston only has a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, two 4ths, and three 7th-round picks this year.
We are 99% getting a 7th for him, which is 100% better than nothing. If by some miracle it’s a 4th, then we made out like kings.

Duke Tobin is cooking in this free agency. Even a conditional 6th (most likely) or a 7th rounder for Mixon is great value.

sounds like a win-win-win to me, even before seeing the compensation as I assume its minimal. We basically just got some free value seeing as we were cutting him, Mixon gets his roster bonus, and Texans guarantee an RB when a lot are getting signed.

I get that we can’t keep Mixon. He gotta get paid at some point, and trading him for something is way better than releasing him and getting nothing in return. I just don’t think Zach Morris is the upgrade the Bengals think it is.
Were we going to take a small cap hit by releasing him that we’re now getting back by trading him!? I’m not good enough at NFL contract math to know the answer to this.
