Quick thought on Brian Burns

Some of the complaints I’ve seen about the contract have been that while Burns is consistent he has never been elite. Lots of reasons have been tossed around such as the Panthers sucking and what not. Something I have thought about though is I wonder if coach Dre Patterson could take Burns to that next level? Danielle Hunter and our own Sexy Dexy hit that next level after working with Dre so I wonder if he can help refine Burns even more. Either way very excited to watch the D next season!

  1. I sure hope so. Losing Xavier McKinney is going to be a pretty big hole over the top for QBs. It would be really nice not to give dudes time to throw accurate balls deep.

  2. I’d think that if the Panthers offense could have stayed on the field at all, he would have looked a lot better.

  3. Oh my god, we traded for a guy who can’t even see through his own face mask, we are fucked.

  4. Hard to have consistently great sack numbers when your team is usually down early so the opposition can just run the ball and dictate terms the rest of the game. Plus Burns did a lot of playing in coverage that Bowen likely isn’t going to have Burns do as a Giant.

  5. Our D line is getting nasty, add a piece in the draft and this guy will feast, no doubt.

  6. Some people don’t understand cap inflation and its impact on player contracts. Yes his deal makes him a top 5 guy now but that will be eroded over the next 5 years and if a true top 5 guy did hit the market today (e.g Micah Parsons) he would be paid far more than this. Things to consider:

    – His contract will become relatively cheaper over time as the cap increases and new players at his position get paid over the coming years (e.g Sexy Dexy vs Christian Wilkins contracts in the span of one year)

    – he’s 25 and hopefully will perform well over the contract length

    – he has high positional value and room for development which is why he’s being paid this much for the expected future production.

Every year people are shocked at how much a top FA gets paid and it’s because they are basing their opinion on cap space 5,10 or even 20 years ago lol. Rather, they should be asking what is the cap going to be in the next 5 years

  7. I think he’s really good. Only the future can dictate if he’s worth the $$ tho.

  8. I think this is going to best pass rush/defensive line that we’ve seen from this team in a long long time

so hyped to see this dude play with Kayvon and Dexy

  9. Lookin good so far. Football Sundays gonna be filled with “Banks closed” and “Burnin down the house”

  10. I think the real value is this is the stacking effect. Dex aside, Thibs has had flashes but has looked meh at times. Lack of additional pass rush threats allows teams to double up key sides of the field. Having Dex, Thibs aaaaand burns, well that’s a recipe for a nightmare of O Coordinators. It’s going to be an interesting (hopefully fun) watch to see the three of them bring back the giants dominant pass rush culture.

  11. He’s going to be a DPOY candidate playing next to the best interior linemen in football, Dexter Lawrence. Oh and Kayvon exists as well. And Azeez is now just a situational pass rusher, which is great. The pass rush is going to be great. So many pressures will be generated

  12. Either Dex eating up doubles, him and KT5 can really get to work on the one on ones and eat. Just hope one of them gets through before their WRs make it through our chalked secondary lol

  13. You also have to wonder if his sack total was depressed a bit by playing on a team that was always losing. Most sacks come when your team is winning and the other team is forced to pass the ball more. Of course, this particular issue also exists with the Giants (the issue of losing a lot).

  14. He will bring a level of fear and intimidation to the giants defense that hasn’t been there in a while. We’ve had too many nice guys in the past.

  15. There was nobody else on the Panthers generating pressure so they could probably load up blockers on his side.

They can’t do that when they also have to block Thibs and Dexy

  16. Burns will be coached by our OLB coach Charlie Bullen. Andre Patterson is the D-Line coach (basically the interior line in a 3-4)

  17. I personally like having a scary defensive line, feels like this is the giants way

  18. I think the idea was meant to be that teams saw he’d have a higher ceiling on a team that isn’t the panthers, and he will be rushing with Kayvon/sexy so they all likely open up pressure/sack opportunities for one another by generating their own pressure

  19. I don’t know nearly enough about him as a player and I don’t watch many Panthers games, but I’m concerned that he’ll be a liability in the run game. We need to stop the run and I’m concerned that he won’t help at all in that effort.

  20. >While Burns is consistent he has never been elite

Consistency is something we haven’t had in a very long time

  21. Burns is nice but they have to now justify this spend because his stats last season are not exactly worth $150mil / 5years. We’re basically paying for his youth lol.

Giants must see something in burns that we don’t 🤷🏽‍♂️ so we’ll see whats up. It’s also really fuckin disappointing to see Tyrod go and we bring in Drew Lock as DJ’s backup, and Devin Singletary (aka SingleYardCarry)….Bro wtf are we doing paying him $5mil a year?!

  22. This man is a really solid player, the cap keeps rising and in 2 years this won’t seem like an insane amount of money, he will get 12+ sacks a year with teams having to double dex every play and worry about thibs (regardless if you’re a fan who for some reason thinks he sucks he’s still a speed threat to get to the qb)

  23. Even if he’s not top 10 elite, he’s rarely gonna face double teams because now lines have to worry about Kayvon and especially Dex too.

On paper our front 7 looks like the first actually good Giants position group in a long time. On paper is obviously different than in game, but I love the move. Every successful Giants team has been built through the D-line.

  24. Fire burns. I can’t wait for him to tear it up for big blue. We haven’t had a true pass rusher like this guy since JPP. Gonna be awesome watching him and kayvon go at it. And with Dex in the middle 🤤🤤

  25. Panthers sucking and him getting a lot of sacks doesn’t make sense.

If your team sucks the other team runs the ball the entire 2nd half. If you are on a good team the other offense is behind and is predictably passing.

I played defensive end in college and when I was confident they were passing it made a big fucking difference.
