The #Chargers are releasing WR Mike Williams, per source.

Now hear me out. I get we have jeudy now but if this guy was cheap would you cut bell (or Mayne try and get a 6th or 7th for him in a trade) and sign Mike for cheap?

  1. We have armari wr1, jeudy wr 2 and Moore wr3.

After that we have Tillman and bell not proven to be ready. Even if we draft a wr at 54 they probably will be redshirted a year as well. If we were to get Mike we would have 4 nfl caliber wrs.

  2. Not happening but it would be huge if we could. He already has a connection with Watson and think it would give the Browns one of the best WR groups in the NFL.

  3. This would be an incredible record breaking 5 game stretch then he would be in street clothes the rest of the season

  4. Not gonna happen…unless we plan on losing Amari, Jeudy AND Moore after this year, there just isn’t enough money for him.

We already have $44.5M tied into wide receivers this year. Williams will easily get $20M/year. You can’t have $64M+ committed to one skill position group. The only team close to that is the Seahawks ($59.9M), and they have the cheapest OL in the game (and the lowest current payroll).

  5. The WR would be loaded if we got him. Watson would have zero excuses this year. If the money was right I say yes.

  6. I doubt we offer more than a 1 year deal

I doubt he takes a 1 year deal

Anything more and we are basically not extending JOK (assuming we are still to add on the dline)

  7. Pre Jeudy this was my top target for us

It’d be tough to justify the move unless we traded out of of Moore or Tillman

Regardless I think we could absolutely use a big body burner/deep threat in the room

  8. That ship has sailed. Unless you want to lose key players at other positions.

They currently have 3 wrs on 1 year deals. I dont think they want to add a 4th.

I expect them to draft another to add to the room and be the 6th wr in the room.

  9. We already have Amari an injury prone reciever, we don’t need to injury prone recievers. Plus Mike is going to want a lot of money that we need placed elsewhere/saved for other contracts next season

  10. I’d be all for signing him depending on what he wants. He’s better than Jeudy and he’s a giant red zone threat. He’s just hurt a lot.

  11. This move is a meh, if it happens, fine, if it doesnt, also fine. (It probably wont)

But… why would you cut anyone to bring him in? If you want him, bring him in and let them all battle it out in camp.

  12. It isn’t happening but imagine a WR room of Amari Cooper, Jerry Judy, Elijah Moore and Mike Williams with Njoku TE. IF Watson would struggle in that offense cut him immediately.

  13. He’s one of the top receivers.

    Why would he be cheap?

Probably in the mid to high teens to sign him.

  14. There is less than zero chance he wouldn’t just go to the Chiefs. Less than zero.

  15. Probs not but if he’s willing to take something cheap I’m down. 20mil, 2 year deal, half of which is incentive based, who says no? We don’t absolutely break the bank, we have a safety option if we end up losing the entire rest of our WR room next offseason, and if he’s hurt the whole time we only take like 5 mil against the cap each year

  16. As someone who’s *always* rooting for our Bubble Wide Receivers, would be pretty cool if Mike Woods and Watkins went absolutely nuts in camp… Just saying.

  17. I was talking about Mike Williams with my brother. Tillman got 44 targets last year as the WR4, I think he played 14 games so just over 3 targets a game.

I was making the point that Mike Williams, one of the best high point / contested catch guys could get those targets through the course of the season. He thinks WR4 is an insignificant position but I disagree.

He will probably get a better role on a worse team, or somehow end up in Kansas City and miraculously stay healthy all year lol
