Xavier Tillman was a superb pickup

Who else remember screaming on draft night for the Celts to draft Tillman?

He reminds me of a slightly shorter Greg Monroe with a promising 3 pt shot. Thick build, solid picks, passes well, moves bodies in the interior.

Will Tillman shoot the 3 as well as Horford? I doubt it. I'm sure Horford is working with him/shot. What a fantastic tutor to learn from.

All in all, Tillman is the kind of beef required to battle/slow down the likes of Adebayo, Giannis etc.

  1. Dude looks like a middle linebacker out there. Everybody wants length, so strength and low center of gravity is undervalued

  2. I swear if they threw a 42 jersey on Tillman I wouldn’t know if they were lying. #Twins

  3. More like PJ Tucker or someone like that. Greg Monroe was just a bucket around the rim and pretty much nothing else.

  4. Totally different player than Monroe, who sucked on D.

But I agree that this guy was an amazing pickup. I love he moves his feet on defense and *instinctively* boxes out in every possession. I haven’t looked it up, but I would bet big money that our defensive rebound rate is way higher with him on the floor.

  5. Tillman looks so much like Al on the court that even Al’s sister can’t tell them apart

  6. He’s solid, the shooting is a welcome surprise. Something I’m keeping an eye on though is that he often has the worst +/- of any of our rotation players in any game. It’s a small sample, and single game plus minus means basically nothing. But it’s caught my eye across the past few games.
