Gabe “The Glass Man” Vilardi out again

One of the primary things people who criticize PLD do is bring up all of Vilardi's potential. To me, it's a lot of potential IR time. Hopefully he finds the best tacos in Winnipeg. 🤷🏽‍♂️

  1. Fell bad for the dude. Hes a great player when hes on the ice. Too bad he cant stay healthy

  2. Disingenuous to call him the glass man when it’s an enlarged fucking spleen and not related to his back

  3. I knew it was a matter of time before someone posted this news so they could dunk on him and say see!! Blake made the right call!! Dudes got an enlarged spleen, move the fuck on already. Trade happened last summer, PLD is signed for 8 years, move on. Move.The. Fuck. On. Already.

  4. Guy has a serious medical issue and you call him “Glass Man”. Real classy

  5. That’s rough. He may be a bit of a douche, and took some shots at the team when he was traded, but I still wish him the best. He just can’t seem to stay healthy. Poor guy.

  6. Villardi will now finish this season having only been available for 54% of games during his first 4 full NHL season (no AHL start) missing a total of 148 games in that span.

This also ignores the time he couldn’t even play in the AHL because of the back issue. If you include that he’s played 46 of eligible games since 2018 missing a total of 265 games in in 6 years, or an average of 44 games a season.

  7. Have some class. No one in this community should celebrate another human’s injury. Doesn’t matter he made comments about being traded, be better.

  8. I’m curious to see what PLD does in the playoffs, I hope he duplicates the Claude Lemieux philosophy of coasting through the regular season and being a honey badger in the playoffs.

  9. Why did I think the spleen was a bone? How do you even injure a spleen from hockey

  10. 2023-2024 season stats:

    Gabe Vilardi = 38 games played, 16 goals, 14 assists, +12 +/-

    PLDubious = 65 Games Played, 14 goals, 14 assists, -19 +/-

  11. Vilardi has played 27 less games than PLD and still has more points if your point here is that nobody won the trade then i guess you could argue that. But from the sample size of this season, I’d take 35 games of Vilardi over 82 of PLD every year.

  12. Damn. That’s rough. Dude can’t catch a break. I take no pleasure in another man’s suffering. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back on the ice asap. He’s too talented to not be able to contribute to his teams success.

That being said, I think Gabe’s lack of availability is a massive aspect of him being traded that many people miss, or just choose to ignore for whatever reason. If he was a player that was available a normal amount, he never gets traded. I’m pretty sure that was the deciding factor for the trade and it’s proving to be the correct one. Only time will tell if PLD ends up being a good, bad or inconsequential signing, but it seems to be the harsh reality that Vilardi just can’t be relied upon to be available.

  13. People also criticize PLD for making 8.5 million, which is completely unrelated to Vilardi and is entirely on him (or on the organization for giving him that much money).

  14. I always rooted for Vilardi while he was here and I feel for him in this moment, however, concern about his long-term health was probably the number 1 reason he got traded. But even this I doubt anyone could see coming.

  15. It’s pretty sad honestly. I wish him the best. It’s pretty obvious this is the reason he was packaged up and shipped out.
