Morning After Keenan

Love the move. Wasn’t happy last night but I’m good now.

I totally get it. And I support it. He had one year left on the deal, not a lot of teams were interested in trading for him and he’s 31, soon turning 32.

They asked him to restructure and he declined so they had to do what was best to make the team better NOW.

You can’t recognize the team isn’t winning because of old habits, bring Harbaugh in and be mad he and Hortiz are revamping everything. It’s like when hoarders try to keep stuff when the goal is to get rid of nearly everything lol

It stings but this is the foundation of how the team gets younger, faster and more talented. Particularly in the WR room. And there’s like 38 mil in cap space they have now to sign depth pieces, something this team hasn’t had in ages.

This is good. Stings a little but this is good.

  1. Yupp I agree. It hurts but it was the right move. Love Keenan, but this frees up the future for us and tells us that Nabers is a lock at 5.

  2. He and DJ Moore could be really fun to watch in Chicago. I hope they can compete this year, get this man some more playoffs

  3. I’m not gonna pretend to be smarter than the coaches/front office, but damn….feels like a death in the family. Bolt up. 😔

  4. Anyone know how much salary cap this frees up for up to grab some more value free agents?

  5. I don’t get the “make the team better now” thing, when all the top free agents are basically gone. I feel like I would’ve been a little more accepting of this at the start of free agency but at this point in time, what are we going to do with the cap that we freed up with trading Keenan?

  6. People say he’s not loyal because he didn’t restructure, but fail to remember he did last year. They should’ve done this before all the top free agents were gone lol

  7. I slept on it, and I don’t love it.

Would have much rather “pulled a saints” to make sure he retired as a charger.

Everything we’ve seen so far is indicating that we’re going to pound the hell out of the ball with Roman directing traffic.

I’m worried for Justin’s production and happiness and desire to be here long term, but truly, winning cures all.

If it all works, we don’t need all the passing yards.

  8. While I’m sorry to lose our franchise receiver, it is a move about the Benjamins. We now have cap space, and an added pick (albeit a 4th) to build the roster. This is about building our roster in the eyes of Harbaugh. I trust the process, even if I don’t like losing Keenan.

  9. i respect this point of view but you can absolutely be mad about this move because Allen has been a cornerstone of this franchise since he’s been drafted. he’s produced year after year, maybe not the insane numbers other WRs put up but really good stats that reflect the safety net he’s been for Rivers and Herbert. even if the move makes sense financially, he was a large part of SD history and losing him is a loss that can’t be reflected on paper

  10. I’m sad because he’s an all time Charger great. Fans can feel sad and optimistic about the future of this team at the same time. It’s not mutually exclusive. I wish Allen well. At this point, I’ve experienced every heart break with the Chargers. In Harbaugh I trust. All change is painful. I just want to see Harbaugh and Herbert hoist the Lombardi. That’s the goal. Let’s see what they do in the draft. Exciting times!!!!

  11. I slept like shit because I was too busy reading about it. But at the end of the day, it’s sadly the right move, especially if Keenan was declining an extension/paycut/restructure.

Going to pray that Herbert gets weapons. Bolt Up!

  12. From a purely football perspective I understand the logic of keeping Mack/Bosa and doing this since Edge is harder to replace than WR and this draft specifically is loaded at receiver. That being said I still hate it since Keenan is a team legend and he’s Herbert fav target

  13. The timing sucks and so far, I cannot see the vision yet. 4th was too rich for Pats apparently.

  14. I was up all night snorting ketamine and watching Keenan highlights and I still feel sad.

  15. He could have stayed if he wanted to retire a Charger that badly. Mack and Bosa restructured to help with cap space. He made a choice 🤷🏻‍♀️

  16. Unfortunately we all need to recognize that the team is in for a soft rebuild. Let’s call it a revamp. We keep our best defensive weapons as baseline and we take a crack at developing young guys like QJ and Nabers to compete this year still. If it doesn’t work out, we let mack and/or bosa walk next year and begin a more serious rebuild.

  17. Prepare for the Checkdown king moniker for Herbert because they are already telling us that’s how this offense is going to be ran. Sorry if that’s what happens they might as well trade Justin and get 3 first round picks for him.

  18. Who’s gonna be WR1 now? Don’t say Quentin cause from what we saw last year he’s a few years away from hitting his stride…if he does at all.

  19. We watch sports for the emotional involvement. If I was a business man rooting for business I’d wear a Tesla stock jersey. This hurts and I hate that we did it

  20. The only bright side I see is that I can get his jersey at a discounted price now

  21. The move had to happen. I don’t know if this is what happened but more than likely they said “Bosa, Mack, Keenan we need all of you to take a pay cut so we can field a competitive team. Otherwise we will need to cut or trade you. We do believe this team can compete with a bit more pieces/depth” when Mack and Bosa did it it helped the team save 10-15 million. Keenan still would have gotten his money maybe 5-10 million less but he would still get money. Imagine the team approaching all their guys and saying we will trade or cut you and then not doing it. It sends a bad message and I’m almost certain in the future they’ll ask Herbert to do the same.

  22. im trusting the front office…we asked for change and we got it. Am i happy about the trade? naw i think coming off a pro bowl year we could of got a little more. But am i fine with it…sure
