imho, maybe the Texans are wanting to add a good vet to help mentor their young WR group from within? emphasis on *good*.
I think Robert Woods, at 31, is their oldest guy? (and is not the guy you want doing that)
Most of the WRs are very young: Nico – 24, Tank – 24, Metchie – 23, Zaiver – 23
So maybe it’s not a position of “need”? but a vet sitting in with these guys could be big.
If we could fit it in I would, we could use someone who can draw attention away from Nico and Tank, or take advantage of Nico and Tank drawing attention. I’ve went back through our games and there were more than a few plays where our receivers just disappeared. Especially on some plays where Stroud was extending the play, sometimes just no one would get open and he had to throw it away and thats an opportunity down the drain. Great offense capitalize on as many of their opportunities as possible.
WR1/2. Nico ain’t it, but Tank if healthy is the 1. If Allen came in he would’ve been the 1 or 2
WR3, CB2, DT2, Safety depth, OL depth. Those are our five biggest places to improve. While still extending Nico and drafting, we have about enough FA budget to sign one guy that turns a weakness into a strength. Don’t count on WR being the vet signing. It could be any of those positions, with the draft covering the rest.
