Posting a random Steeler every day until kickoff or I forget – Day 19: Delton Hall

DB Delton Hall (1987-1991)

Delton Hall was taken in the second round of the 1987 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers out of Clemson after taking Rod Woodson in the first round. Hall was also a standout in track, setting the North Carolina state 400 meters record in 1983 with a time of 46.41.

Hall would earn a starting job immediately during his rookie year, picking off Joe Montana and returning a fumble 50 yards for a TD in his first game. A month later, he’d get a pick-6 on Boomer Esiason in a win over the Bengals. Throughout his rookie year, he intercepted three passes, scored two defensive touchdowns and earned the Joe Greene Great Performance Award for rookies and also was chosen to the PFWA All-Rookie Team of 1987. Fans and teammates took to calling him “Beltin’ Delton.”

After his rookie year he would only make seven more starts during his 5 seasons with Pittsburgh, with injuries and off the field behavior contributing to that.

He left Pittsburgh after 5 seasons and spent one final season with the San Diego Chargers. He injured his Achilles in a playoff game during the 1992 season, and was released in August of 1993.
