[Slusser] I’ve confirmed the Snell signing. It includes a $17 mill signing bonus payable in Jan. 2026. $15 mill salary in 2024.

Soooo a deferral?
Hot take but deferrals should not be legal
Look, I would’ve liked to have Snell. But there’s a laaaaarge gap between being happy if they’d managed to sign him, and frothing at the mouth with a raging Cashman hate boner, spouting how Hal is cheap, yadda yadda, because they didn’t. And keep in mind throughout all this, the Yankees’ first initial offer for Snell was the highest he ever got through FA. If not in AAV, than in total value and job security.
god damn NO ONE wanted this dude
Teams were falling over themselves to give 300 million to a dude that had never pitched stateside. The reigning Cy Young had to settle for 2 years with money deferred. Absolutely no one must believe he’s going to be an ace again lmao
Do signing bonuses count towards the AAV and therefore the cap?
Yankees or not, this guy objectively wasn’t worth $60m
A contract made to trade
No two ways about it, the Boras guys absolutely got their asses kicked in the offseason here. Not one of these guys got a nine figure deal.
