  1. This is a bait post to the max. Don’t put the picture of Andrews in there like we should agree this is a good move. Tackles are part of the game and hip drop tackles – while having a higher chance for injury – are like the only way defensive players have a chance to bring down huge TEs. Defensive players can’t tackle low or high from the front, and now won’t be able to drag down players from behind. It just gives more power to offenses and refs making judgement calls.

  2. If the defender is behind the ball carrier, this basically makes all tackles against the rules then right?

  3. I do find it funny when people claim it’s gonna make the sport soft, they outlawed the tackle in rugby a while back, and the players adapted, and it’s still as aggressive as it ever has been. and you can still hip-drop tackle to an extent, but instead of putting your weight onto their legs, you put your weight on the ground first.

These guys are the top of the top athletes, they’ll adapt and be fine

  4. Anyone complaining that this makes tackling too hard should familiarize themselves with the weightroom

  5. I know because of the Andrews play some of yall might agree with this, but if this was implemented it would be bad for the sport

  6. The issue is that this is how football coaches teach players how to tackle. Thats what really needs to change. I’ve played football growing up and had several injuries from football due to poor tackling technique. Injuries from concussions to sprains and breaks etc.

I also played rugby and still do, and only had maybe two injuries over a 20 year career. And the way coaches teach tackling in rugby is far different than football, and football coaches should be looking at that for ways to improve tackling. I know the Seattle Seahawks did it a while back but I think it should be standard practice. Ina. Sport like rugby a lot of technique goes into the tackle because of the fact there’s virtually no padding (hard shell padding anyway) so tackling has to be spot on to minimize the risk of injury for bother tackler and tacklee

  7. Gonna have to learn the hawk roll tackle. It’s what the Seahawks teach. They actually have a couple of legal tackles they teach, some teams just don’t do it.
