  1. Not sure how much to trust this, seems different from other ‘rumors’ and what Sneed has said.

BUT. If this is the case, and Sneed is looking for a 3-4 year contract and there are only 2 CBs making over 20m/year, maybe we’re just going to hang onto him on the tag unless we get a 2nd round offer, then sometime after the draft if it becomes clear that isn’t gonna happen, we extend him 4 years with a 3rd year out and spread the money around, actually lowering the cap hit a little this year (compared to the 19.8m Tag hit).

I’d be fine with locking him up for 3 years if we could do it and still be responsible and smart with the cap.

  2. He either gets traded before the draft or plays one year on the tag and walks. This isn’t smart by him because there is a low chance he gets a better deal than what he sees now. Chiefs won’t extend him.

  3. Top CBs are basically WR1 erasers, so it makes sense that they should feel underpaid respective to the WRs they are covering. But the reason that CBs are underpaid respective to WRs is, CBs only produce that value in “peak” situations. A CB1 who erases a mediocre WR1 can’t put up the CB equivalent of 150 yards and 2 TDs and totally take over the game. The only defenders who can totally take over the game against every opponent are pass rushers. So that’s why top pass rushers are paid like WR1s and CB1s are not. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

  4. The article provides zero new information and is just a summary of the reporting we’ve all seen to date from beat reporters and Schefter.

  5. Teams don’t want to give up both a top tier CB contract and a high pick. So they’re going to wait it out thinking the Chiefs don’t have leverage and won’t play Sneed on the tag. I expect it will come down to the days before the draft.

  6. From the article:
    > teams could be wary of paying a cornerback top-of-the-market money when he’s closer to 30 than some of the other top players at the position.

I just wanted to say I think its messed up that Sneed is coming off his 4th rounder rookie contract and already dealing with “but you’re too old to get paid” bullshit. This kind of talk is what would make me not want to accept the tag if I were him. He’s only going to get older.

  7. I don’t trust any reports. I’ll just wait until whatever happens happens. They (social media “reporters”) led us to believe he was basically already signed to the Colts a couple weeks ago.
