Would you rather take a WR or OT at 32?

Clearly these two are the top needs. But I think after signing Hollywood Brown, Chiefs can settle for a day 2 value WR, since the draft class is pretty deep. I think an OT makes a lot of sense, especially if someone like Amarius Mims falls beyond Packers at 25. I like this first round mock draft for the Chiefs.

  1. I still believe we need to go WR round 1. Signing brown as a 1 year rental does nothing for the years after this one. Get a young guy in the room now and develop him so he’s ready to be a stud next year. Next year it will be Rice and an old Kelce, brown will be gone. Draft the best one you can get now.

Signing Brown should in no way, shape or form change the chiefs draft plans.

  2. Best available at OT or WR. I figure in the first five rounds we’ll end up taking a WR, TE, DL help, and an OT.

  3. Assuming similar value available, OT all day. Every year WRs are going to be available in free agency. Good OTs on the hand, rarely available and if they are, very expensive. Long term, it’s better to have quality O line on rookie deals than high caliber WRs.

  4. OT because O line depth is paramount. Could be Tyreek, could be Jerry Rice, but if the o line gives out and the qb doesn’t have time to throw the ball then no one is catching it regardless

  5. Tackle while a concern is not as alarming as the drops were last year. Draft a WR high and try to strike with a tackle in the later rounds. Veach is pretty good at finding talent there so I trust he can get the job done with that

  6. Ot. Serviceable wrs should always be available and you might strike gold lower in the draft. I want the guy to protect mahomes.

  7. OT – there’s a very short list of WR’s I’d chose in round 1 and a much longer list of OTs that I think are worth the pick.

  8. Veach positions us every season to go BPA in the first.  There are two things working against each other in this scenario you laid out.

    1.  Veteran tackles are cheap and our QB makes them look better.  Donovan Smith is still out there.  After the draft there will be more available.  Wanya isn’t out of the equation.  He was drafted to be a project and he looked okay when we saw him.

    2.  Wide receiver is deeeeeeeeeeeeep this year.  There are guys that will be 3rd rounders this year that could have snuck into the tail end of the first round last year if things fell right.  Offensive tackle has some good talent as well, but I’m not sure it’s going to last into the 3rd and 4th rounds like receiver.

At the end of the day, I think we go receiver if there is a guy that they think is miles ahead of who they could get at the end of the 2nd round.  Maybe AD, maybe Thomas Jr.  I think we go tackle of someone falls.  And I think we go DE if there is someone Spags loves.

  9. My guess is they take DL and WR in rounds 1 & 2 and then draft Javon Foster at T in the 3rd. There really aren’t that many high end LEFT tackles in the draft. It’s much more of a “normal” tackle draft from that standpoint. Really only BYU, Mizzou, and Arizona kids are realistically going to be there for the Chiefs and project as an LT in the league. And none are protected as day 1 plug and play starters. They all need development and backup time before they would be ready to start in an ideal world.

  10. OT imo, just because of how deep this WR class is. Don’t get me wrong, OT is deep in this class as well. But not drafting a WR at 32 doesn’t put Mahomes in danger. However, not drafting an OT at 32 could. Obviously a lot of it depends on how the board plays out, say the 1st round level OT’s are all gone by 32 and one of the tier 2 WR’s drop to 32, okay then, that makes sense. But if you had me choose which position of those 2 on the surface is more important for the Chiefs at 32, it’s OT, imo.

  11. I’m hoping we could trade back into the second and pick up some extra picks and trade up with those picks and 2.32. Two high seconds gets us both in this draft I think

  12. While I’m thinking they’ll likely take a WR in rd 1; it woulnd’t shock me to see us move down 5spots or so, then take a WR. Then with our 2nd rounder, move up in the round and grab an OT like Paul.

  13. WR and it’s not close.

This year is one of the best WR drafts in 20 years.

We could grab a WR talent at 32 that normally would be top 10. AD, Worthy, Coleman are all incredibly talented.

In a draft where OL isn’t considered anything special, why take the 4-6th best one.

  14. OT. I think it was made clear the last two years that MVPat can win with mediocre to bad WRs. With Hollywood and 2nd year Rice the group is already better than last year.

  15. Its hard to find a Left Tackle so if one is there then sure but I’m not holding my breath on that. Paying Jawaan Taylor a ton of money to play Right Tackle is kinda nuts. Tyler Guyton would be a RT. Jordan Morgan is probably a RT. Graham Barton is interior OL. Kingsley Suamataia is a possibility but is smaller and has shorter arms than Wanya Morris.

Mims, Olu, Alt, Fautanu. Do you guys see any of them falling? If so, the Chiefs should go that route. Otherwise, its probably WR.

Of course, moving Taylor to the left side and its OT at 32 all day.

  16. Others have said it but id say best T or WR, whichever is on the board. Though id prefer tackle unless AD Mitchell is somehow still on the board

  17. BPA. We have lots of potential holes. If there’s a good OT or WR then let’s make it a priority.

  18. The answer is OT. However, we’ve had some pretty meh left tackles in Mahomes career and it hasn’t really been that big of an issue. As long as they’re at least average, Patrick is able to ball out regardless.

  19. My heart says a wide receiver because that’s more fun but my brain is saying OT

  20. I’m hoping there’s a top 5 QB still available at 32 that a team wants to get a 5th year option on. That could allow KC to trade back. Would be an awesome class to have as many 2nd/3rd round picks as possible

  21. Unless AD Mitchell or McConkley is available at 32 I think we should go OT. There’s not as much depth in that class and it would be good for us to have another starting option besides Wanya. If Sneed gets traded to someone like the Colts or Vikings that makes things a lot easier besides we can upgrade whichever pick gets left until the 2nd Round.

  22. it’s a very deep draft for WR. so OT if they aren’t all gone. i know it’s not sexy, but there are FAR fewer potential starters at OT than WR.

  23. OT, but I don’t want it to be like last year where they were basically forced to go for FAU because Edge was a big need. If the right fit isn’t there, no harm in taking a WR.

  24. The Chiefs are in a good spot with their roster. I feel like they will go with the best player available on their draft board. It’s how the entire draft will go.
