Steelers most likely 1st Round Draft Pick(meta-analysis)

  1. I really hope so. I do like some of the tackles but JPJ is the only center j feel completely comfortable with starting day 1. Don’t want to pass on him and risk none of the top centers being there at 51

  2. Wouldn’t drafting JPJ round 1 break all sorts of history considering usually their first round pick usually has EVERYONE in attendance at pro days like Georgia and Michigan. They only sent OL coach to Oregon pro day… really doesn’t feel like JPJ will be the first round pick.

Edit: Since 2010 every first round pick by the Steelers has had Mike Tomlin and the GM in attendance at the pro day. Neither were in attendance at JPJ’s.

  3. Would have much rather seen them get a center in FA to give them some flexibility in the draft. Unless they’re comfortable with the kid from WVUs injury or the C from Georgia I would be surprised to see them do anything other than go after JPJ, including a trade up like last year. There are still quality CBs and WRs available in FA and later rounds.

  4. I would love JPJ but think it’s unlikely we take him.

We didn’t send an army to his pro day which we almost always do for 1st round picks we’re considering. IIRC, the only Steelers coach who attended was Pat Meyer

  5. Steelers fans are way too obsessed with “finding the next Pouncey”. JPJ isn’t great value at 20, we’d be better of finding a RT or #1 CB at that spot in terms of future financial value

  6. As things look at the moment, with the McCarthy hype and Vikings loading up with draft capital, it’s safe to say at least 4 QB’s go in Round 1 before we pick. It’s likely Payton takes Bo Nix @ #12(50/50?). We need to root for as many QB’s to be taken before us as possible.

If those 5 QB’s go before us, we’ll get the 15th-best non-QB. We’ll have basically pick of the litter.

  7. Do we really overlap with GB? Seems like they really need a tackles/DBs like we do

  8. They’re not taking a center at 20. They’re trading back if one of the tackles isn’t available. I think they end up going Mims. I think for C they either trade up for Frazier or go with SVP in the third round.

  9. There’s a lot of good centers in this draft. I’d hate for them to spend 20 on one.

Fortunately this is far from scientific and is literally only as accurate as mock drafts are, which is — not at all.

  10. I think it’s likely that we trade up a few spots again. Trading to 16 puts us ahead of three teams that could take a tackle and leaves Seattle in a more palatable position to take JPJ for themselves.

  11. This is an unpredictable first round pick. I’m guessing it’s Powers-Johnson, but if the team likes Mims enough, I could see us moving ahead of Cincy and taking him. It’s just tough to say without knowing how high they value Mims. We know they seem to be confident in Dan Moore but they also seemed to be confident in Kenny before they signed Russell Wilson.

  12. I would bet they take the best RT prospect on the board in R1. Trade up to grab Frazier (C) in R2. Take a WR in R3. I don’t think CB2 is a huge priority for them after bringing in Queen, Elliot and Jackson. They give Cam another year with this DL before rebuilding, maybe add a body in later rounds. Larry O may have a bounce back year.

Russ is older and they are going all in on him to win in the short term. Spend draft capital on offense to keep him upright and add another weapon. Secure Tomlin’s legacy. That’s their priority… if I had to guess.

  13. Trade back if possible and pick up an extra 2 or 3. Would still be able to grab a really good first round prospect and have an extra pick later to fill out the roster more.

  14. One other thing that talks against him being our selection is that we rarely select players from the West coast in the 1st round. Both of the times we have done that since 2000 have been hits. The two picks were Troy and Decastro.
