[Preseason Reminders] To post a tweet, please link directly to Twitter instead of posting an image, and use proper title formatting

Tweets are one of the main ways information is shared, so it's important to post them in a way that makes it easier for everyone to join the conversation. When posting a tweet, you should link directly to the tweet, use the tweet text as your title, and include the author.

Good Title and Twitter Link: [Passan] BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.

Bad Title and Image Link: we did it. (Actual post someone made on Correa Day)

Almost all of the time you'll be using the exact tweet as the title, but there are some exceptions.

  • You can clean up the tweet for clarity. "[Twins] Wishing you the best in Miami. Thank you for the memories!" isn't clear, adding in the player's name (Arraez) is good.

  • For long eight-part tweet threads, you can submit a self-post with a descriptive title and copy the content into the text of the post with a link to the start of the chain.

Why is this a rule?

  • Some users don't have access to imgur or other image hosts, so it's hard to join in the conversation if you can't read what's being posted.

  • Tweets are short enough that they can be used as titles with the "[Author] Tweet Text" format that our rules require. This lets users participate even if they can't view imgur or the actual tweet.

  • Screenshots can be edited, direct links to tweets cannot. There have been cases where users tried to troll with screenshots of ESPN saying we traded Lewis and Kepler for Machado, or other dumb things.

  • It gives credit to the reporter.

  • It lets users easily go to twitter to like/retweet/view replies if they want, rather than hitting a dead end with the screenshot and needing to go find the tweet themselves.

  • It prevents duplicates as reddit will tell you when multiple people try to post the same tweet.
