[Holder] The single biggest reason the Colts have basically run it back with their roster is because they are convinced Richardson is a difference maker who can help them take a leap. That has come through in numerous conversations I’ve had in recent weeks.

  1. Great let’s put all that on the plate of a qb who is basically a rookie. They are putting too much pressure on him.

  2. I mean sure that may be true, but that seems like a poor excuse to leave the secondary untouched.

  3. I understand AR has insane potential but let’s be honest he is not Andrew Luck and won’t be carrying a bottom 5 roster to 11 wins. Our roster isn’t that bad but we can’t expect to go out there and continue to allow 28+ points a game and think we can just out score them every time. I think Ballard is a good GM but if we come short of the playoffs again I seriously think he’s looking for another job next offseason.

  4. Ok Ballard. Not like any external free agents could also help the team take a leap. Like a cb or safety so the secondary isn’t ass, and Richardson doesn’t have the pressure to score 28 points a game to win.

Part of me hopes we miss the playoffs and fire Ballard. While part of me obviously hopes we make it and make a run. But I’m so tired of his bullshit

  5. CJ stroud looked like a difference maker too. Didn’t stop the Texans from adding pieces

  6. Why try to improve the roster when you can just put it all on a, basically rookies, shoulders!

  7. I love AR but you can’t expect that from him, especially when he played in 4 games and didn’t finish half of them and one of his red flags from the draft was a lack of experience. He’s still going to have growing pains and “rookie” moments. We all hope that he takes the next step but there’s no guarantee

  8. The number one characteristic that matters more than any other is availability. If he can’t stay healthy then his potential is moot. We don’t know what that future is, so planning on an unknown rather than preparing for possible scenarios is a poor way of thinking.

  9. This is the same mindset that pushed Luck to his very limit. We are doing stupid shit.

  10. I think this makes it worse. If AR is HIM, then why not use this (when he’s on a rookie deal) to over spend on free agents and bring in more talent to surround him. It would be one thing to not address CB if we went out and got a killer WR or Edge Rusher. We did nothing.

  11. I mean that could be possible if he stays healthy but that really has yet to be seen. Feel like we setting up ourselves for disappointment.

  12. So the plan is to run the team exactly how it was ran when Manning and Luck was here? No help, just hoping they can carry the team on offense and defense?

  13. Basically, Ballard is admitting the roster is mediocre and is hoping that a (basically) rookie QB coming off major surgery will be good enough to cover up flaws on the rest of the team. Great plan.

  14. Seems like such a smart move to basically just put it all on someone who will still have essentially rookie experience.

  15. Not all about one guy though 👍🏻

BBB should have a much shorter leash than he does

  16. If that’s the case then surely adding some other valuable contributors would make us a Super Bowl contender?

Unless we’re all supposed to think that Anthony Richardson alone, with 4 games of NFL experience, makes this roster a contender?

I’ve been a huge Ballard fan over the course of his tenure but this offseason felt like the perfect time to *truly* move on from Andrew Luck and build a roster that can compete in its own right with no excuses and no ifs and buts.

I was genuinely expecting another Buckner type deal this offseason, giving up #15 for a real difference maker at edge or corner. It took far less than that to get Sneed. Imagine trading even a 2nd for Sneed and then getting someone like Terrion Arnold or Quinyon Mitchell at 15. Now we’re cooking.

  17. Hasn’t hope for the best been one of his defining mantras? Hope for the best at O-Line, let your QBs get absolutely creamed for 2 years. Hope for the best in the secondary, get routed by a Rookie QB to lose a playoff spot at home. Hope for the best at QB with Ryan, end up hiring a talking head with no experience to coach you to the worst record in years…

It hasn’t worked the first 4 times but maybe 5th times the charm.

  18. Before i comment, I wanted the colts to select AR and still want him as our long term future QB, but how about we stop hyping him up as the lord and savior of this team until he can actually make it through a full game and season.

  19. This is just all out insane and I do not understand how this man has so many supporters

  20. Even if he is a difference maker, he doesn’t play Cornerback, so how tf does it make sense not to address CB just because the QB is good? Mahomes is great but the Chiefs at least put a great D around him!

  21. “We went young in the secondary, and look, there were some rough moments at times in the secondary and I don’t completely put that on them. I put that more on me”

Just copy paste this statement from Ballard a couple months ago and use it at the end of the 2024 season. He’ll say pretty much the same thing.

  22. If this is their mindset, wouldn’t it make more sense to give him more support on defense?

  23. We’ve taken this approach too many times now of going into seasons with glaring holes… If we don’t make the playoffs this season I’d be supportive of finding a new GM at this point

  24. “I don’t need to excel at my job bc a game who played a couple nfl games will make up for everything”

  25. Iiidddkkk man, that kinda seems like a cop out. Not signing any DB help to one of the worst DB groups in football because you “think” you “might” have a stud QB seems like a little bit of a reach.

  26. These things are not mutually exclusive. Both can happen simultaneously. AR can be a huge piece with significant impact AND the rest of the roster can be improved through key additions. Cmon Ballard, be better.

  27. It’s Luck all over again. Let’s not build a secondary, because Luck will save us. I’m so sick of watching average QB’s torch us.

  28. Man how the fuck do we end up with 3 different franchise QBs and 3 completely different front offices that do fuck all to get help? Manning had no defense, Luck had no line (obligatory FUCK Grigson), and now we’re just going to ignore glaring holes in the secondary and receiving corps with Richardson.

  29. So “we’re not gonna solely rely on one guy” becomes “we’re solely gonna rely on one guy”.
