The Lakers rank high in rim frequency and rim accuracy which means they get close to the basket very often. They also rank high in post up attempts and possessions finished by the roll man which also means they get to the basket very often and this play style generates fouls often.
It’s important to really think about what the above text is saying, Lebron typically switches to smaller defenders to post up and those defenders will send him to the line instead of giving up the easy basket.
When a play is finished by the roll man that means the defender got beat and teams will still try to contest and end up fouling the roll man anyway.
AD doesn’t get foul calls nearly as much as he should but I don’t think anyone is arguing he’s getting fouled on almost every post up attempt and typically gets fouled on lobs as well.
The Lakers are unique in that they have two oversized all star players that are very hard to defend without fouling, no other team can say that their two best players (both top 10 in the league) are going to get mismatches whenever they want no matter who is on the floor and typically the defender struggles to defend without fouling. You saw this with Nesmith on Lebron last night.
AND ON THE DEFENSIVE END – I DON’T THINK PEOPLE REALIZE HOW MUCH OF AN EMPHASIS DARVIN HAM HAS ON CONTESTING WITHOUT FOULING. SOME OF YOUR MOST FRUSTRATING MOMENTS REGARDING HAM HAS BEEN HIM BENCHING YOUR FAVORITE PLAYER. HE BENCHES THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE FOULING!!!!!

I do try and point to how often AD fouls and how many times he’s been ejected for 6 of them. And it’s like once.
I’m made to believe other teams are supposed to get FT’s when I’ve watched Reaves/Prince get routinely burned on the perimeter all season after they drag AD out of the paint? lol
Maybe the philosophy is that giving up layups is fine since the clock is going and the flow of the game is occurring still and we’ll just get it back rather than a foul causing stoppage in time and playing against a set defense.
And the Lakers give up more uncontested shots than anyone. And yet people still complain about the FT difference. If wasn’t the Lakers but instead say the Rockets, it wouldn’t be a meme, it would be ignored.
Yea I got flamed in the nba subreddit but idc I know the lakers don’t get the golden whistle everyone says they do
