Interesting. Are they also gonna do the ‘4th and 15’ for onside kicks too?
So, there will never really be another Dante Hall… that is fucking stupid.
Holy shit. I didn’t think those crazy bastards would do it. Pat Mcafee is going to lose his mind!
Kick returns are now a viable solution to gain field position again.
I like it.
Better than what they have had given kickoffs previously had been a ceremonial play where nothing happens.
Anything to bring back this play even if it looks different.
I support this. Kickoffs have become rather meaningless.
They put the ball on the 50 and have everyone run for it?
McAfee said they had moved the touchback back to just the 30 instead of the 35, it seems like a smaller adjustment but he said based on people he talked to it’s likely teams are still just going to kick the touchback and turn the ball over on the 30. We’ll see how it plays out but until the touchback is more punitive than the threat of a return, it’s still just a ceremonial play. I do think that the structure of it is better for player health, and if they make the touchback unappealing to encourage returns it could be a game changer, literally. Plus I think it might encourage fielding kickers that are also serviceable safeties.
Get Justin Reid some drop kick practice if only the kicker can run full speed as a defender lol
