  1. Sorry, but what fan base is seriously saying, “nah, we’re good” You’re damn right we want Monty, Sherman. We also want a couple of beers while you’re up, thanks.

Monty already played for this team too. This isn’t fucking news.

Edit: this is especially egregious because Monty came up in our system. This dude is looking for clicks and it’s working because I’m heated.

  2. He’s not wrong.

Every time a franchise player his FA, we “should be getting him”. Doesn’t matter how many we have (Cole, Soto, Giancarlo (when he was acquired), Judge) at the time, we should ALSO be getting Machado, Harper, Ohtani (this was given up on in the preliminary stages because of our clear DH clog), Yamamoto, etc.

We’ve been led to believe that’s our right after the 00’s when every name brand player came here.

  3. BIg fucking whoop Joel, Fans want good players on their team. What’s next the sky is blue?

  4. Is it that we want every player to come to us or that agents use us (and the media) as leverage to try and get their clients the best deals? Especially since for years — though not so much lately — we were the team willing to spend huge on long-term contracts, so much so that when we stopped doing it the economics of baseball under the current CBA kind of broke?

In this instance we need pitching, so Montgomery would be perfect. I think that’s why we want him.

  5. I think at one point there was a bit of entitlement especially in the 00’s and early 2010’s that the fan base genuinely thought they would acquire every teams top player. Even if it was true to an extent and the Yankees did acquire a lot of top level talent from other teams I can understand how that would rub other fanbases the wrong way especially smaller market teams that couldn’t retain their talent.

But this take by Sherman is like 10 years late. While I think some of the older Yankees fans still think this is the way it works and campaign for the team to acquire top talent even when it’s unrealistic most of us are pretty realistic now and understand things have changed and that Cashman won’t spend $200+ million every offseason.

This statement is much more accurate for the Mets fanbase since Cohen bought the team. Every video I see of a player there are multiple Mets fans in the comments going “future Met” or something to that affect.

Yea a lot of Yankees fans want Montgomery but is it that outrageous for us to campaign for home grown fan favorite guy who is like a mid-rotation starter? This is just a really weird time for Sherman to dust off this take.

  6. Sherman has been insufferable for the last 15 years. He broke the Sabathia signing and ever since then he’s been so far up his own ass with everything he says.

  7. Sherman brings up a great point about Bryan Reynolds, even if he’s a little too harsh on him. Reynolds has settled in as a 2-3 fWAR corner outfielder, and that’s definitely not somebody you trade a Volpe or Dominguez for.

  8. Any intelligent Yankees fan stopped believing that to be true a long time ago.

  9. I never blame people for wanting the world. I only dislike it when they blame the FO when, big shock, the other 29 times make moves and take a guy. Feels like people don’t bother to research the reasons why a move wasn’t made. Like there are still people blaming Cashman and Hal for not going “harder” after Yamamoto when nobody but the Dodgers stood a chance in signing him. That said, the Yankees are worth billions, and I don’t blame people clamoring for a 400 million dollar payroll. Just have to recognize how unrealistic that is and base expectations are their roughly 300 million dollar budget.

  10. Yeah, no shit Jole. Doesn’t every team want the best players playing for them?

  11. what asinine drivel. How are people like this allowed to have podcasts? Hey, genius, every fan of every sports teams want the best players on their team. in other news, night is dark and water is wet.

  12. Monty gives me vibes of when Pettitte left and Cash thought he’d circle back… maybe it’s because he’s a big lefty, wore 47, I’d like him back in the fold

And yeah, as a fan of one of the richest teams out there, I d like to see all stars brought in all the time

  13. Tell the agents to stop fucking leaking our name for every FA and we’ll stop assuming we’re in on them

  14. Now this is sports journalism at its best. State the obvious and pretend like it’s a “Hot Take”. How many sleepless nights did he have learning about what a fan base is?

  15. Joel, all you reporters just want to win awards for great work… What’s wrong with you guys?

  16. Funny take by Sherman. In all sports you want the best players on your team. Unlike the front office worried about money we don’t give a flying fuck just get the guy.

Will the Yankees sign Montgomery? Probably not, if they didn’t try I’d be more upset.

  17. It sounds like something a fan from a poverty franchise would say because they’re angry that they lose all their good players to free agency.

  18. Wouldn’t any fan of any sport want the same thing? Don’t believe there are many fans out there that would want to shout out , “ We’re number two or three.”

  19. I wanted Monty back until I just loaded up on Luis Gil cards and now I’m good lol

  20. The way he talks, sounds, fidgets, contorts his face, is just a full embodiment of the Post. You can get your point across w/o being completely insufferable.

  21. No shit. It’s called being a fan.  When I was 13 we were making up our own 11 player blockbuster deals to get Ken Griffey Jr traded to the Yanks.
