GB’s Mayor’s Statement on the lease agreement

  1. All of these points are valid, and I respect the fact that this is being handled far enough in advance for posturing on both sides to be respectful. Everyone seems to agree that both sides will eventually agree, but are not particularly close as of now, and given the amount of time to close that gap everyone expects things to be handled in a way that is agreeable to all parties

  2. I don’t live in Green Bay but wouldn’t the city completely collapse without football?

I know the Packers can’t move but why would the mayor even try this?

Edit: Why with all the angry downvotes for a question? I literally don’t know the situation.

  3. Just sell the stadium to the Packers and get the City out of it. Lease negotiations for a single user facility where the city has all the risk and the team gets all the reward seems foolish.

  4. As assumed, when a businessman comes out with his side of the story first, and is pointing fingers, it’s because he’s trying to get out of a deal that he made that accidentally benefits someone that isn’t his own pocketbook.

  5. Isn’t it weird the Packers are asking for a rent reduction? They aren’t strapped for cash and no one in particular benefits materially (like an owner would). A bit of a Mexican standoff.

  6. Seems people getting worked up over nothing if the deal is in place for another 18 years. The packers are obviously big for Green Bay but a company that makes millions shouldn’t be allowed to just do whatever they want at the expense of everyone else without no push back whatsoever.

  7. I feel like the team has done more for life in the city than the city does for the team. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

  8. Im a Portuguese fan( if you accept me as one) and the last statement doesnt make any sence to me.
If you(we) are the only team with no owner the people dont sustain the Packers, the people are the Packers.
People sustain more the politics because they have no choice with taxes and etc but they choose to be a Packers owner.

  9. I was giving the city a hard time earlier today, but the truth is everyone ought to be on their side here. The Packers are special because of the citizens of the town that raised them.

  10. I can’t take a mayor seriously who posts an official statement by screenshotting his word processor app.

  11. Sounds to me someone wants to name next Lambeau field wawa field or quick trip field.

  12. This is a non-story IMO. Packers aren’t leaving and Green Bay isn’t going to let a 500 million dollar business leave town over a lease agreement.

If we had a billionaire owner, I would be concerned.

  13. I hope this mayor of ours isn’t trying to out smart Mark Murphy. He is a Northwestern graduate, he worked his way up the NFL corporate ladder, he oversees a multibillion dollar franchise, he oversaw the building of the entire Titletown district, he got the damn NFL draft to come to this shitty town… this is not the dude to play financial hardball with Mr small town mayor

  14. While the City owns the Stadium, everything that the city did to build and renovate the stadium has LOOOOONG been paid for and there is no need for them to continue to pay the same amount of money for the lease. The City of GB wants to “drive tourism” that doesn’t center around the Packers (which is a hilarious excuse…Packer fans will ALWAYS drive tourism to GB, no matter what they do), there is plenty they can do without that money.

  15. The words look familiar but it all sounds like blah blah blah blah blah when I try to read it.

    Rich people problems.
