  1. Don’t hate it, don’t love it, but I’m tired of seeing it kicked past the end zone on almost every kick off.

  2. This one is actually good though… now the kickoff won’t feel like such a formality and we can actually have more returns impact the game

  3. I might be completely off base but I could see Dameon Pierce as primary KR thriving with these rules. He strives for yards after contact and if he can get through the initial line he could be off to the races.

  4. It encourages more returns and is safer than standard kickoffs. I’m excited.

  5. This feels like a rare win/win of a rule change. It makes kickoffs actually interesting again and it addresses the obvious injury concerns without completely nuking KO’s altogether. Great move IMO

  6. I like it. I am going to miss the theatrics of the opening kickoff, I’ll get used to it eventually though. I am a whore for the theatrics involved in the nfl.

  7. This is so sick honestly. There’s going to be a new era of KR returns for a TD

It will be interesting to see if the Texans ST staff adapts well to it

  8. I like it. Not perfect, but it keeps the play alive and we won’t have to see a bunch of touchbacks every time.

  9. I like this. I could see situations where a select amount of returners become very dangerous again. I could see situations where teams opt to just take the ball at the 30 when playing against these guys. It makes special teams more important and I can see a lot of creativity being explored on kickoffs.

  10. The twitter rules purists are having a meltdown like they do with all changes, but this is actually a great change

  11. Honestly not a bad idea for a compromise for the kickoff. Better than getting rid of it

  12. Wait this is actually kinda fire. Kick offs suck and kickers are encouraged (usually) to just kick it out of the end zone. At that point they may have just gotten rid of kick offs and spotted the ball at the 25 after a score.

With these rules in place I expect teams to not only get better field positioning more often, but we could see teams with great ST units (*cough* the Texans *cough*) really succeed. Frank Ross, this is your year.

  13. I love it, let Frank Ross cool baby. I think he can do some good stuff with this

  14. Only really downside is you can only Onside in the 4th quarter and can only do it twice. Obviously if you need it more than twice that’s an issue, but I mean shit if they can get it and they need it I don’t see why they limit it.

  15. Can someone explain in simple terms (i don’t know that much abt football terms)

  16. We had the number one special teams last season. A major change isn’t a good thing for us (nor a bad thing, just interesting how coaches will approach a play that’s never been run live)

  17. I don’t like the new onside kick rule. What made the saints Super Bowl win special.
