Jabrill – Kickoffs, can’t hit QBs to hard/can’t land on em. can’t hit WRs to hard/ it’s a flag if it looks bad. Banning a “hip drop tackle” We know what we sign up to do. Owners are just tired of their stars getting hurt playing a dangerous game. Most of these changes favor the offense.

  1. Most might disagree, but I will say what i’ve said about both NFL and NBA.

With the way offensive players are protected in both sports, I feel like to be a great defender today, makes a player better than the greats before these changes.

The amount of restrictions put on defenders today, any defensive player who is still great with all these restrictions, has to be a monster.

Same goes vice versa. If an offensive player is capable of being great when there were less restrictions on defenders, basically defenders had more free rein to do as they please, then that offensive player is a beast.

Simply, whoever has more difficulty and more importantly can rise above it and be great, is a special player.

  2. They don’t give a shit about player safety lmao, it’s all just a cover for the fact they want to encourage as many TDs as possible. More TDs = more revenue.

The strategy is to keep special teams off the field as much as possible and encourage offensive TDs.

  3. My favorite part about rule changes is read the whataboutisms in the comments, I’m just here to observe

  4. What are some of the best safety enhancing rule changes that might favor the defense? Just curious if there are any.

  5. Out of one mouth, the league talks safety. Out of the other side, let’s have 2 games on Christmas that’s on a Wednesday.

  6. Obviously most rule changes to protect players will be made against the defense, they do most of the hitting. But they also banned chop blocks by offensive lineman, offensive players are not allowed to lower their head and lead with their helmet, blindside blocks are banned which would include plays where the defense is returning the ball. So dangerous plays the offense does are also being removed, it isn’t just the defense.

I remember watching the highlights when I was a kid, and I loved watching the big hits, but you watch some of those plays now and they were literally head hunting, you’d see defenders pick up a QB and drive him into the dirt, there’s no reason for those plays. If a defender can’t tackle without going for a head or a knee, then they don’t need to be playing.

  7. Exactly. If Drew Bledsoe never got blown up on the side lines. We never would have seen Tommy.
