Doug Glanville thinks we’ll win it all!

  1. For those who don’t want to scroll down….

**You were the lone voter to choose the Blue Jays to win the AL East, the pennant and then the World Series. Explain why you’re all-in on them.** I have stuck with the Jays since I saw the coming wave of children of some of the great Hall of Fame players I played against. The Jays are in an interesting sweet spot — they have young talent who are now also experienced. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is clearly on a mission in 2024, knowing he wasn’t at his best a year ago, and they still made the playoffs. Their rotation has a lot of arms and while every team’s pitching staff needs better health, the Blue Jays’ pitching was also a strength last year. They can win on the road, they beat up lefties and righties without pride or prejudice and half their team is so athletic that they could be playing in March Madness (and they are probably still young enough to be on a college team).

Now, the next step for them, which I believe they will take, is to perform better in their division. They proved they can beat the teams they are supposed to beat, but now, they need to beat the favorites to fully realize they are the favorites. — *Doug Glanville*

  2. Someone voted Vlad for MVP and Gausman for the Cy… Guessing those were Granville too

  3. Glanville had the Jays at the very least in the World Series IIRC last year as well. The rest of the ESPN folks are really taking a dim view of the Jays and elsewhere Jim Bowden also did a rating of all the opening day lineups and significantly downgraded them by placing the Jays 18th out of all teams.

In a way i’m ok with all the doubters. Some of it could be justified but not to the degree that i’m seeing from all these experts. I think it’ll give the Jays some extra motivation to play well this season. It’s a lot easier to catch people when you’re doubted rather than having the bullseye on your back.

  4. Man I hate these subreddits full of casual fans who treat sports like a religion.

The Jays (my team too) have VERY low odds and will probably place 4th. Get your expectations in check and enjoy the season.

This subreddit many years back used to be a great place to discuss baseball, back when the team was struggling and expectations were low, but now its just crazy delusional fanatics downvoting and shouting down anyone criticizing the team composition.

  5. I think he’s a bit delusional but I’ll get on that train with him!

I’ll believe it when I see it with Vladdy. We got lucky last with with rotation health, and things like Springer hitting well in spring training isn’t going to guarantee any success in July and August.

    Plus Baltimore. Jesus.

Personally I’d like to see the “who care’s it’s only April and there are 155 games left” stuff go the wayside. Sure the season is long, but take advantage of every opportunity. When you’re 1.5 games back at the end of the season, those “who cares” games matter.

  6. There’s a very reasonable world where Vlad, Bo and Varsho all receive MVP votes, Gaus gets CY votes and Yari or Tiedemann gets ROY votes

There’s only a handful of teams in baseball that could say that and they’re all contenders
