Ray Davis Q&A: Building the Texas Rangers, TV uncertainty, Jordan Montgomery and more

I thought this article was one of the more fascinating I’ve read this offseason. The finances of owning a baseball team has always fascinated me; how teams make money, why certain teams spend and certain teams dont, how much these teams actually CAN spend versus fan perception that they’re all just gold-hoarding billionares, etc.
Ray had a lot of thoughtful answers to these questions and its clear we’re in good hands. Especially after a lot of hand wringing about not bringing back Monty, I’m encouraged by his outlook.
Also, as a Cowboys fan, hearing him say ” I think the focus ought to be on the general manager, the manager, and the players. Once you take that spotlight away from them, you’ve diminished the team. And that’s why I like doing things the way I do.” is just… more than a breath of fresh air.
HE SPEAKS
He’s earned a degree of trust from the fans.
well this blew my mind:
“Davis, 82, has owned the Rangers longer than anybody else in the franchise’s history.”
Great article. Would love to know why he put Energy Transfer on the uniform – the general public can’t buy ET (I mean I guess you could buy the stock). Seems like Nolan Ryan beef or Dr. Pepper would make more sense.
