Steelers’ Art Rooney II discredits NFLPA report card after poor marks, prefers direct feedback from players

This just in: billionaire owner doesn't like that he wasn't graded well in the way he spends money so he tries to discredit that criticism

  1. He really needs to have the PR guys handle these questions and give a canned answer or something. Whether you personally believe these report cards are a big deal or not, Art has not publicly handled the situation in the right way.

  2. Thousandaire makes a complaining post about millionaires complaining about billionaire

  3. Virtually all North American legacy teams across all sports have basically been mid for the past decade plus because they all refuse to adapt to modern sports

  4. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but it kind of feels like AR2 is realizing that – at present – his legacy is going to be a lot different than his dad’s and his grandfather’s.

  5. Billionaire doesn’t like that a UNION has a negative viewpoint of him. Wow who could have seen that coming.

“It’s a media opportunity for the NFLPA”…they’re a union not a for-profit company that needs attention..you know like the NFL team you inherited.

Never liked this guy, rides off the coattails of his father and grandfathers legacy. Refuses to spend money on resources/coaching/stadium/etc. to bring the Steelers into the modern NFL. And is stuck running the team like it’s not a multi-billion dollar organization.

Just FYI, the Steelers PROFIT last year was $121 Million. There is more MORE than enough money to do upgrades and spend on coaches and staff and handing out larger guarantees.

  6. Not a fan of him but I believe Kraft said of his report card that he was going to build a state of the art weight room and provide child care.

    Suck it up Rooney.

  7. >**prefers direct feedback from players**

If you’ve got a complaint with Tony Soprano, just tell him. No repurcussions. Promise.

  8. Technically he’s just millionaire owner, which is where most of the issues with this franchise stem from…

  9. I won’t take direct feedback from players personally says the boss who is taking direct feedback from players personally.

  10. Who does he think are the members of the NFL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION are??? That is direct feedback from your own players

  11. Prefers to be able to punish the players who speak out against their management of the facilities and personnel

  12. I’m not trying to defend him as some form of untouchable … but what he is quoted as saying isn’t wrong.

The NFLPA didn’t do this exercise to share with ownerships for a quality discussion on how to improve…they presented it to the media to put the pressure of doing it on the owners and the owners alone. No financial discussions – just “the owners should do this because they rated poorly”.

No NFL player is deciding to take $100k less per year to have better facilities. Not a one of them. This report doesn’t do much.

  13. Makes perfect sense. Guys tend to lie when they know their answers remain anonymous. When they’re face to face with their company’s owner, that’s when they’re most comfortable giving negative feedback..
