  1. Yeah, that number isn’t going to fly. I can see the reasoning behind it, but no one with his tenure and ability when healthy is signing that deal.

  2. I guess it’s impossible to not feel disrespected about that offer but also impossible for the 9ers to offer him anywhere near what he thinks he is worth.

  3. Cold business, good for Armstead for getting the bag. Hopefully he can stay healthy with the Jags.

  4. I think that’s a 10 million dollar pay cut so it makes complete sense for Arik to do what he did. He knew he had one more contract in him so he decided to test the market.

  5. Sounds like a “this is what we can afford for what you reliably provide” type of offer. Glad he got paid.

  6. He took it personal when it’s just business. He’s an aging veteran with injury issues. He missed most of 2022 and five games of 2023. 49ers have to manage their cap space. If Collins plays all 17 games at his current cost, then the 49ers did the right thing for the team.

  7. I can see both sides of this. Perhaps it would have been better for the Niners to simply tell him they don’t want to disrespect him with a low offer since they know he can do a lot better on the open market. In any event, as fans we should expect to see this a few more times in the next several years as players like Kittle, Warner, etc. get close to the end of their current contracts.

  8. I understand that from Ariks perspective. But also the Niners paid him while he missed a ton of games. You can’t pay a guy that’s aging, dropping in production and can’t stay healthy. He’ll play 8-9 if we’re lucky. All respect to arik, he was great to the community outside of football and a highly respected looker room guy.

  9. I assume this was 1 year 6mil of new money and the ability to spread his current guarantees over the new time frame of his contract. No way they were just asking home to give up 10mil of guaranteed money.

  10. I can see why Armstead was upset about the offer but the reality is due to his injuries, he’s a part time player, so it makes sense the 49ers offer him a part time contract.

  11. That’s terrible as I think he would have taken a pay cut to some extent. A pay cut over 60% is too much. Maybe the Niners were spooked by the foot injury.

49ers are hampered by that Hargrave contract. He is a good player but not against the run and doesn’t have the gas tank and motor that guys like Arik have. Arik is guy you really need in the playoffs/big games. Hopefully these recent acquisitions will fill the void.

  12. Glad he got more money with the Jaguars, thankful for his contributions and everything he’s done

Still feels weird to hear players think they’ve been disrespected. Same thing with Jerrick McKinnon. Got paid top money for their positions and when the 49ers had to move on for other players, they feel disrespected. Just odd to me

  13. Meh, whatever… 9ers should feel disrespected for the production they got when they gave him 5y x $85m extension for 1 good season.

First 2 years of ext he total 9.5 sacks while playing with Bosa. Then the last 2 years he’s 13 games and had a total of 5 sacks but that’s due to the 9ers moving him to DT cuz he was terrible at DE.

His one saving grace was he did ball out come playoff time! He seems like a nice and likable dude so I wish him the best. Glad Baalke is a sucka and paid him cuz he sure does like his injured players.

  14. Niners gave him the absolute bag with his extension, he did not live up to it. I can’t feel bad for him.

  15. Don’t blame him at all for seeking out what a team was willing to pay. The Jags are making a mistake, but that’s not his fault. Baalke loves him some injured guys. It was an inevitable reunion. Niners did the right thing. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

  16. Worth more to other teams that he was to the 49ers. I get why he wanted to move on and get paid. Business is business, the 49ers have a salary cap to manage and sinking that much money into a player that misses large chunks of the season just isn’t a good allocation of funds.

  17. I saw his salary last offseason and thought he’s the first salary cap kill if we don’t win it all.

  18. Arik did right by himself, and that’s his prerogative. He did right by Niners for nine years and good for him on his new contract. Ultimately, the Niners made the right move for the financial future of the team.

  19. The amount of reports by journalists that said the niners offered comparable money to what he ended up getting paid in jacksonville was too many, one of these is bullshit. Judging by the cost difference for Juice to what his contract was, It seems unlikely they offered this big a difference. I don’t trust anything said anymore, first he was offered 17-18 mil but he went to jacksonville for same amount cause taxes, now it’s 6-8 mil…wtf is this difference.

  20. Back in 2020, the Niners traded Deforest Buckner and gave Arik Armstead a 5 year, $85m contract. By comparison, Buckner signed a new contract with the Colts for 4 years, $80m ($3m a year less). Since then, Buckner had a first team all-pro and two pro-bowl selections with 32.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles compared to Armsteads zero pro-bowls or all-pros with 20.5 sacks and 0 forced fumbles in the same time span.

  21. Buckner felt extremely disrespected when they picked this guy over him even though their play clearly suggested they kept and paid the wrong guy.

  22. Thats a lot lower than his apparent market rate (got 3years, 43million at Jax)

It is what it is, but they offered half of what he got, if true (not including incentives)

  23. This is not a Lombardi quote. It’s an arik quote. Why would this guy be getting credit for this???
