Yankees vs. Astros Game Highlights (3/28/24) | MLB Highlights

We welcome you to downtown Houston today for the 2000 and 24 season opener for the Yankees in town, the first of four between the Astros and the Bronx Bombers. As we welcome you to opening date, there is the brand new skipper the 20th manager in Astros history.

Joe Espada making his debut as a manager today. Sure, there’s but flies for our buddy joe and he will send his left hander out to the mound for opening day. Of course, he will. That’s what we’ve done the last couple of years from out there to be that opening day starter

For the Astros. This will be his third consecutive opening day start. Torres is in the starts this season with a swinging strikeout getting Torres for the first out of the and now juan Soto will make his Yankee debut as a 25 year old left handed hitter. Strides to the plate.

Four home runs in spring training. Big deal brought him over from the Padres to be the eighth pitch. That’ll be at bat. There’s a walk, so it’s 641 walks. Now you got big number 99 coming to the plate grounded towards Bregman left the double play best friend as he rolls up

Another double play to end the first inning of his first start. And Nestor Cortez gets the opening day as Simon 12 games in an injury plagued year last year , five and 24.97. Altuve once again in the leadoff spot for the Astros swing and a Miss altuve down on strikes,

Bring up your Alvarez one time in his big league career. He’s hit number two in the lineup. He’s going to add to that total a bunch this season and he smashes one to center field, one pitch, one swing, one hit 44 off to a good start early. Here’s Kyle Tucker, that’s a

Walk Astros two on for Alex Bregman. Bregman high in the air pretty well hit but has it lined up? He’s on the warning track and he makes the catch for out. Number two, here is jose Abreu down and in with that fifth pitch and that’s a walk second

Walk allowed by Nestor in this inning and the Astros, the bases loaded for Chas mccormick is rising up the middle base hit two runs score mccormick on the board with a two outs loaded and that will bring up Janer Diaz in his first opening day start his second opening day in the big

Leagues. This one’s a base hit to right field. Janer Diaz knocks in a run three Astros. Now Jeremy Pena’s turn Astros shortstop batting in the eighth spot. A little chopper to Cortez throws to first in time. The inning is over great inning though for Houston to begin the year.

So the Yankees down three, nothing uploaded the bases with one out. Both teams have had a bases loaded opportunity early in this game, Jose hit 2, 10, 4. Home is 15 RBS. Injury didn’t play a lot short could be two, two innings, two double plays. This one with the bases loaded.

Jake Byers strolls to the plate leading off the bottom half of the second inning starting center fielder had a really good beginning to his spring training. His second straight opening day start. Hammer to left field, forget about it. Jake Baer first A B of 2024. The big flaw, Jake with the rank

Comfortable in their first A B of the season, didn’t, how about it? Show me some speed. That pitch was in off the inside corner. Three strikeouts for valdez. We played 2.5 at M Park. Astros four Yankees, nothing Jas mccormick with a fly out to right field. So it’s a 123 for Nestor Cortez

Three up three down on Astros lead it 4 to 0, go to the fourth. So once again, the Yankees have them loaded up. Now, let’s see if they can do something with men on base. The batter will be alex Verdugo bases loaded one out four nothing Houston top of the fourth ground ball.

Could it be the third double play? Yes, it is from fire up three double plays in four innings, two with the bases loaded and wiggles out of it again the second with a double as Jake Myers hit a home run his first at bat of the season swing and a

Miss myers down on strikes three strikeouts. Now, Robert for Cortez, here’s misses strike three. So Cortez gets through the fourth, no runs, one hit one Yankees in this inning, a walk to Trevino, an infield hit by cabrera Then a walk to Torres now two and one on soto who led

The majors and walks last year lined in the right field. That is a base hit one run scores. It is a Yankee drives in a run. The Yankees are on the board, it’s 41 Astros and now the Yankees trail 41 with the bases loaded, no one out and the batter is Aaron.

He went around confirmed by Rob Drake at first base with a swing. That is a huge strikeout for, for the first out of the inning. Now it’s Giancarlo Stanton and got him on a changeup down and away back to back strikeouts for valdez, two away rizzo and he gets hit.

So rizzo is down clutching his hand, a run will score, but that’s not the Yankees biggest concern right now, Rizzo is used to being hit, but usually he gets up and goes to first right away. So from Valdez who did not allow a run in either of his first two

Opening day starts responsible for the three men on has given up two runs in four and two thirds. So far in this one, Seth Martinez coming into the ball game has a single and a walk three. All right here against Martinez bases loaded two outs that ball four that force in a run.

Yankees to within 143. Here is Verdugo and now Susan, a base hit by Alex and the Yankees would actually have the lead and that will do it for the Yankees big pitch there to get out of trouble singled and scored in the fifth. He’s also struck out deep to

Right field off the bat of at the end of spring training connects for a home run to tie the game at the Wizard of Oz. The homer to right and the ball game is at four back to back, two out hits by and pen and the Astros have runners at the

Corners with two out single is going to bat for Jake Myers and the pitch is grounded right back to LA got like that under the first to end the inning and that will load the bases Volpe’s race all four times has singled in three trips lofted to left field

Mccormick will make the catch tagging his judge here he comes. Here’s the throw not in time. A sack fly for Verdugo and the Yankees lead by four and the Astros have two men on jose, a Braves turn, jose zero for two. He walked and scored in the

First inning swing and a miss no throws needed from the outfield. So the Astros have the tying run on and they bring Jeremy Pena to the play representing the go ahead run. Pay you two for three with a double and a single hit on the ground. A second double play ball, the

Short one on the first double play and the Yans are out of the eighth inning, ninth inning Park Yankees with a 54 lead and Josh Hater will come on and make his Astros debut in a non save situation. Hater signed a five year $95 million contract with the Astros this off season.

He will face Giancarlo Stanton who is one for four today. First strikeout, three pitches and a strikeout for Josh Hader. Welcome back if you will please. That is a tough combination slider, fastball in fastball away, three pitch strikeout got him two batters, two strikeouts in his Astros debut, two outs in

The ninth in his first game. Is it Astro three batters? Three strikeouts. Welcome back, josh Hader and the Astros have the tying run in scoring position and the winning run at first with one out for kyle Tucker. There’s a base hit to right field him home. Here’s the throw from SOTO.

Here’s the play. He’s got a great tag by Trevino and SOTO got rid of it quickly for the second out. So they are going to challenge the block and the play at the plate. Well, that’s, that’s really, really close. Remember the call on the field is out? Is there enough to overturn this?

Get a lace, get him? Did he get the blouse of the shirt after the call stands, runners out? There you go. Yankees out of the way with a huge assist in his first game as a Yankee Bregman today is one for four. He singled in the seventh, grounded to short, they should

Do it. And it does the Yankees win 54, a thrilling opening day victory for the New York Yankees soda with a big defensive play. His first single, his first RB I and the Yankees come back from a 40 deficit to win this one by four.

  1. Good God! Framber pitched TERRIBLY in this game as he constantly got in jams with walks and hitting batters! He got lucky with double plays with the bases loaded 3 times but his luck ran out in the 5th with yet another bases loaded jam that allowed the Yanks to get back in the game. My "brother" Diaz getting 3 hits in his first game as our regular full-time catcher is exciting to see and so glad "Maldy" is gone cuz he was such black hole in our lineup! Montero really needs to go! He was TERRIBLE last year, TERRIBLE in the pre-season, and yet he still made the team and, unsurprisingly, gave up a run in our opening game of the season. Typical Montero. Espada choosing to go with him and having Singleton pinch hit were guaranteed losers and I'm already questioning his managerial style so this is concerning. GO STROS!

  2. This stings. Not just because it was opening day, and it always feels good to win opening day, but the fact it was against the Yankees makes it even worse. But, I think the people saying stuff like “the season is over” and “time to rebuild” are just stupid. It’s only opening day. Still 161 games left to go. With all this aside, it feels great for baseball to be back and let’s go Astros!

  3. Great game and the second biggest Opening Day come back victory since the 1950 opening day when the Yankees came back from a 9 run deficit to beat the Red Sox 15-10.

  4. Looks like the Yanks got rid of the white border around the "New York" on the letters of their road jerseys and the piping on the sleeves…Going with the classic road uni!!!

  5. MLB you have to do a better job of getting these highlights posted faster. This game ended hours ago. NBA and NFL has there highlights posted literally within 30 mins to an hr after the game has ended
