4 weeks out, who do you think the Steelers will draft in the 1st round?

I’ll let you guess what I think.

  1. I think it comes down to Mims v JPJ at this point. Happy with either, but with the caveat we have to address C, WR, CB, OT in the draft/post draft FA.

  2. I don’t know who’s likely to be available when we pick, but I assume the mindset is we need a Center more than anything else, unless there’s someone else (probably another O-Lineman) who we think is dramatically better than the best available center.

  3. I honestly hope we trade back and get 2 2nd round picks. Allows us to Address C, OT, WR with 3 top 60 prospects.

  4. Brian Thomas Jr or AD Mitchell. And this sub is going to lose its mind when we draft a WR in the first round. For some reason half the sub just wants to ignore that it’s a massive need

  5. Mims. If we take a center in a draft full of tackles, I will stare into the distance. Center is a vastly less valuable position and the draft is deep there as well.

  6. OT. Specifically Mims if he’s available. I think they wait on C and go Frazier in Rd. 2.

Unless someone is willing to give them a top 5 pick in Rd. 2 + a Rd. 3 I wouldn’t trade back

  7. We’ve been struggling with guys who don’t know how to snap the ball consistently since that playoff game against Cleveland almost 4 years ago. Most mocks I’ve seen around the internet have the top center in the class falling to us but instead going for less pressing needs like wide receiver (the last first rounder we took there was in 2006) considering our centers are currently: career guard moved into the middle and career practice squad guy.

  8. best available between OT, C, and CB probably. I think we end up taking frazier in the second round. so OT or CB. if I was betting on it id say mims

  9. Man if Mitchell, Arnold or Dejean are there at 20, I’ll be a little sad passing on them

  10. Amarius mims my best guess, but could be jpj. We’ll see if we even have the option though

  11. Id guess they go T over C or WR (definitely not CB). I know C is a bigger need, but you just cant get Ts in the later rounds like you can with Cs. Plus this tackle class might is crazy. The question really becomes who will be there. Mims will likely be the best guy there, but JC Latham is who Im holding out hope for. Seen a lot of mocks with him landing in the 16-21 range and I just really hope we get a chance at him. He’s as big and physical as they come and much more pro ready than Mims at this point.

  12. Setting aside specific players and focusing on positions the first round pick is an offensive lineman. At this point any other position group would be a surprise?

  13. Unless someone falls to us unexpectedly I would trade down if the opportunity is there and see who is available. Players I’d take at 20 would include:
    – Fashanu – I think would be worth keeping Jones at RT. Some think he is the best OT yet doesn’t seem to be getting the attention Alt, Latham, Mims are.
    – Fuaga – I think could be a monster RT!
    – Q. Mitchell – I think will be a true shutdown CB. Secondary would be scary pairing him with JPJ.
    – Bowers – Not sure if I’d do it but I’ve been debating if he would be worth an off the wall pick given Smith’s offense. I’d probably just ignore WR till day 3 then.

Short of that, I would like to trade down hopefully ending up with 2 picks in the first ~40 and 5 of the first ~100. We already have 4 of the first 100 (20, 51, 84 and 98) so it’s just adding one extra pick so doable. I think that would allow us to get an impact player at C, RT, WR, DL and CB. I’ve been working on a draft board which I don’t have in front of me but you could walk away with 2 of say A. Mitchell, Coleman, McConkey, JPJ, Barton, Frazier, Guyton, McKinstry, Rakestraw, Tampa. We have Moore and Jackson who the team seem confident in even if I’m not so I’d probably focus on WR and C first but balance that with BPA.

Hopefully we would still have a pick between 50-60 and get someone like SVP, Suamataia, Pearsall, Melton depending on what you did earlier.

Should be plenty of WR and DL available in the 3rd, but there could also be guys like Amegadjie, Paul, Foster, Sainristil, Hart, Jones depending on what we did with the first 3 picks.

Then day 3 would just be picking BPA and role players that fit our schemes. Could maybe use a TE (some think Connor Heyward could be used more like a FB), depth at RB, OL, ILB, S…lots of ways we could go.

  14. OT is extremely deep. Gotta get another one this year to take advantage of it. Some years there’s on 1-2 decent ones available. Two bookends at OT for the next 10-12 years would solidify the offense.

    Want Frazier in round 2.

  15. Worthy – fast as lightning and can return punts. Hopefully not a center in first round.
