Patriots reportedly sending large contingent to Drake Maye’s Pro Day

  1. Looks like all the same people that went to see Daniels (Mayo, Wolf, Pelt, McAdoo, etc.)

Also a handful of scouts are going to Washington’s Pro Day w/ Penix as well.

  2. As expected, right?

I don’t comment on the draft much, but this is probably the most stacked QB draft we’ve seen in a long time. Exactly what this league needs right now.

  3. It’s like we are talking about nomads in the desert or a wagon train. Our staff likes to travel together. It seems like not such a big deal to me.

  4. Mayo, AVP, McAdoo, and McCartney are the coaches going.

For comparison, there’s not a single coach attending the one at Washington today. Just a handful of scouts.

  5. We are also meeting with him before the pro day today to talk to him some more which is good

  6. No no no I was told the Patriots hate Maye and would trade back if Daniels isn’t available.

Oh you mean the media is full of shit? Good to know.

  7. Between what was said and the contingent going to the pro day, seems to be signaling that Maye is probably the guy they want at 3.

    Seems the options are:
    1. Hopefully Maye gets to us at 3 and Washington likes Daniels
    2. Trade back if he’s taken

  8. In other news: the Patriots plan to field a football team this upcoming NFL season.

  9. If you trade down and miss on a great (not even perennial all pro) but great QB you still probably fucked up in the league. They may not take you to task if the guy you traded down for is an all-pro but that still gets a front office canned

  10. Penix and Nix fans in shambles. They sent a small group for Nix last week and Penix’s pro-day is today and only a small group went while Mayo, Wolfe, AVP, McAdoo, Highsmith are at Maye’s after going to Daniels yesterday.

and my guess at Oregon’s pro day they were looking at Troy Franklin and at Washington’s pro day they are looking at Polk and McMillan

  11. Meta question: why do people get so offended when reporters confirm that things we expected to happen actually happened? It would be more of a surprise if they didn’t, but we still need to check the box of establishing that it happened.

    Edit: typo

  12. The more I watch some of these all 22 breakdowns of these QBs, the more my opinion changes. I had it Williams – Maye – Daniels – Nix – McCarthy. Now I think it’s Williams – Daniels / McCarthy – Nix – Maye. Maye’s issues seem to be more than footwork, and he doesn’t move as well as I expected. Penix is also very good if you can live with a pocket QB.

The only point being: I think the media consensus on these guys is not shared by the teams, who may each grade these guys very differently. Similar to what we’ve seen in the past when Fields dropped. Patriots are doing the diligence they need.
