Can anyone explain to me why this screen was set for Tatum to go left into 3 Hawks defenders?

Tatum gets the blame for a bad shot but idk why he was screened left when there was all this space to the right. I get there was little time and that was where it was inbounded but then shouldn’t White have been on the other side of the floor? Bogdanovic was allowed to press up on Tatum because he had help from Hunter and Murray if Tatum blew by him. If White took his defender with him, then Brown is alone in the corner. Either Tatum gets a line drive to the basket or draws help from Brown’s man and kicks it to him for a corner 3. If Capela comes to help on a drive, Porzingis cuts and Tatum finds him baseline for a dunk. To me, this is terrible spacing and it’s not really Tatum’s fault he had to chuck up a fading 3PT shot.

  1. You are looking too much into an exhibition game.
Most people don’t realize how hard it is to get a good shot when making sure the clock is at 0 (the most important part when tied) it doesn’t matter if you miss,it matters that the other team can’t win the game (in regulation)

If we get a layup with 4 seconds left because of a great play, the Hawks can come down and hit a 3 and win.

Now if we were losing, we don’t want to waste any time and get a great shot asap.

  2. It’s a f up. The whole right side was cleared. This is the play that Smart typically runs. Jrue just needs his reps to fix it.

  3. Found Mazooka’s burner, lol

    Jk

It was a mistake. The spacing was incorrect, and the assistant coach added it to the film session…

  4. They run it both ways. When they screen on this side, Jrue is supposed to slip the screen. If they double JT jrue is wide open. If they don’t switch Tatum has an open shot or a drive. Jrue slipped and was open but I think at that point Tatum saw 3 seconds left and just got a shot up

  5. Imagine sitting on your couch thinking you have something to teach the #1 team in the league.

  6. I guess as a reporter you can’t come in with a fan mindset but I swear I would ask both Joe and Tatum if they think the iso stuff works at the end of games because going 2/11 would say otherwise

  7. not a fan of the spacing given by white and brown there either

they’re on top of tatum so their defender could guard him

  8. The screen is the problem, the problem is there is 4.4 seconds on the clock and Tatum is still at half court. They need to get him the ball where he actually has a chance, not where he has to beat 4 defenders in 3 seconds. Terrible play call and execution
