Yeah I was yelling at my TV quite a bit. Then for the first base ump to get the call wrong on the Story infield single…. yikes
Eh not so bad
that first at bat to Casas was horrific
So… bad zone but consistently bad.
He definitely got better over the course of the game. The first few innings were awful.
That’s honestly better than I was expecting. Felt like a third of the called strikes were clearly wide of the plate.
Not terrible, but still bad.
Not terrible, but still bad.
i contend that these calls, on the edge of the plate, are missed because umpires do not stay in one position behind the plate. they move left and right depending on the batter and catcher position. they did not do this when they umpired with a balloon protector. they stood in the middle of the plate and there was consistency.
Dude let Seattle’s starter *live* on the outside. Once the bullpen came in, he gave considerably less leeway.
He improved a lot as the game went on and wasn’t calling those outside pitches strikes. Not the most atrocious performance, especially for opening day.
Missed a bunch on the sides, certainly wasn’t hard to tell on TV
