I’m still confused why they awarded Toews the goal but then they stop there. If Toews gets the “goal”, Nate should get the “assist”.
I haven’t delved this far into an assist in a long time, remind me of the rules: If a shot hits the goalie and bounces out to another player who scores, does the person who took the first shot get an assist because the goalie never possessed it? Also, per this post, what is deemed a shot by a defender? Because it sure seems Mikko knocked his stick into the puck, so it wouldn’t be a “shot.”
(P.s. no defender would ever purposefully shoot at his own net. Seems like any own goal should come with assists)
