Does Scoot have the yips?

Numerous blown dunks in the past week.

Routinely making passes to nobody — passes that never have even the slightest chance of success.

Routinely losing his handle when the defender isn't even applying heavy pressure.

I wish nothing but the best for Scoot and am crossing my fingers that he's just growing into the speed and intensity of the NBA game. But I'm wondering if he's got some psychological issue that's getting in the way of doing otherwise simple things such as finishing a wide open dunk. I imagine with all the expectations, he feels like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. Perhaps it's just a lack of confidence after making so many unforced errors day after day. Perhaps he just doesn't have the skills yet.

What do you think… Yips? Or just a lack of skill in the first place?

  1. Could be a bunch of things, it’s clear he had little to no development in 2 years on the ignite, also the rookie wall is a real thing and these are the dog days of the season. Having said all of that, playing in games where you’re absolutely getting your doors blown off has to really affect your psyche as well. It’s just been a really tough and borderline disastrous rookie campaign for the kid.

  2. I’ve seen this a lot – when he tries to play cautious, things like this happen.
