How far will the Jets have to get in the playoffs for this year to be considered a “success”?

I'm curious to know what people think. I asked this question in the GDT and got some interesting responses. The Hockey Guy made a video about this topic and said that our season would be a success if we made the 2nd round. https://youtu.be/3vGiAvEO1Bc

  1. 2nd round not good enough. We need at least CF and not get dominated in it to be taken seriously

  2. Winning a round and then not immediately collapsing in the second would be a good minimum, but of course more would be better.

  3. I think 2nd round is what most fans expected is the minimum. The way they are playing right now though, I feel people would rather them not make the playoffs for a chance at a better draft pick.

Personally, I will be content if they get to the conference finals. I’m moving out of province so this will probably be my last year to see them live in the playoffs, unless I come visit at the right time of the year. So selfish me wants a really good cup run. Want to experience as many whiteouts as possible

  4. At least conference finals. Getting bounced in the first would tell me that we need significant changes in management and coaching. We would essentially be the Minnesota wild at that point. Decent in the regular season but never making it far. The second round is alright but it doesn’t really inspire confidence since this is the deepest team we have had since 2018. If that’s not good enough that we need to do some soul searching about who is on this roster next year.

  5. 2nd round to 6 games would be a “not failure”. Into the 3rd round would be a “success” to me.

  6. Going into the year I would’ve been happy to just make the playoffs since a lot of us were expecting a couple year retool or even a full bottom out

Here I’d just be happy getting further than last year! So game 6 of round 1. Anything is gravy after that.

Now it seems the common expectations are at least the WCF once we were so far up the standing in Jan/Feb. Best our high score of Game 5 WCF?

  7. Hard to answer depending on who they play and how difficult the series is but it will definitely be a failure if bounced in round 1

  8. Success can be defined by meeting or exceeding expectations and or goals. Fans don’t set the Jets goals. As for expectations I think that, for most, they have exceeded them. So you could say they have succeeded to this point.

Here are my playoff expectations. I expect this team to compete in each round(s). Thats all I need to see from this team to meet my expectations.

  9. Optimal outcomes:

    1) win the Cup
    2) get bounced quickly so they fire Bones (and Lauer)
    3) every other playoff outcome
    4) miss the playoffs

  10. I understand the bar was raised as the season went on. But the reality is that no one had any real expectations at the start of the season. I think the Jets have already exceeded what most people realistically expected.

So, having said that, for me the Jets just need to play solid, effective hockey. If they play really sound hockey and fight their asses off every game and lose in round one in 6 or 7 games, I won’t be horribly disappointed.

If they play like they played last week on the East coast and get swept, I will be infuriated!

  11. If we get bounced in game 6 or 7 against our likely opponents Colorado, Dallas, or Vancouver in the 1st round I wouldn’t be upset if in those games they played competitive and lost.

  12. I’d settle for at least one game without allowing more than three goals against.

  13. Honestly, I’m not expecting a round win, so anything more than that would be cool. With the way they’re trending, and with our power play never seeing any changes or improvement, I’m just not sold that this team will be anything other than an easy, 5 game out in the first round.

  14. With the playoff format as it is there will be good teams getting bounced early. As long as a we put up a better effort than last year’s playoffs I will consider it a success.

  15. Bettman wants to give a cup Canadian team this year and if it’s not the Jets I’d consider the season a bust. Cup finals would be sweet tho.

  16. Jets are one of only 5 NHL teams to *never* play in a Stanley Cup final. It’s time.
